Dd 18 has PT job in restaurant. Would I be U to ask dd to cancel her shifts Fri and Sat night? We are planning to see family in England over Xmas, 400 miles away, leaving Monday.

We have booked holiday cottage, Tesco order etc and I don't want to have to cancel if dd catches Covid!!

Help - wwyd?

It depends on the employer. My daughters both worked at chain coffee shops before getting grad jobs. I was shocked at how awfully they were treated. They are both responsible and hardworking and were both treated terribkyb by their employers (different companies) They regularly ended up not being paid for all their hours etc
If the OPs daughter is working fir a company like that and wanted to ditch the job I'd encourage her too.

The Tesco shop - what if the delivery driver's parent doesn't want them out working? Their family Christmas. etc. etc.

Presumably when they sack her you’ll be willing to financially support her ? Then sure why not.

YABVU. Such a stupid and selfish post. The country would be on its knees if everyone had this attitude. My DH is a doctor and incredibly overworked lately. He doesn’t really want to be ill/ isolating over Christmas but ‘cancelling his shifts’ wouldn’t even be a consideration. Not to mention shop workers, delivery drivers, care workers, police, teachers etc. Good job these people don’t prioritise a family holiday over their responsibilities.

Reading posts like this makes it clear how fucking ridiculous the fetishised "Family Christmas" has become.

The country would stop running if everyone did this. How could anyone possibly think that it was a reasonable thing to do?

Couldn't agree more. Bloody ridiculous.

Reading posts like these make me realise how awful it is that people will put business and the economy before their families tbh during a pandemic. I think OP has been given a really hard time and after the couple of years we’ve all had who can blame OP for wanting to prioritise family and Christmas

I see a lot of threads where parents have teen dc who refuse vaccination and it’s ok to guilt and pressure them into having a vaccine but then here there’s a teen who is an adult and has to be respected etc etc and keep her job ….. double standards

That's a truly, truly, terrible comparison 🙄
