Sainsbury's have some good ones reduced. I have just bought one called Jura or similar for about £22

There aren't many duff ones really! If you get one on offer you will pay less than £30. Jura is a good call as it's not too extreme. Whilst I love Talisker, it may be quite powerful for some tastes! Glenmorangie or Highland Park are lovely too.

You can get Glenlivet on Amazon for £22 at the moment - that's quite a saving. Also Glenmorangie is £25 from amazon - also quite a saving (it's around £37 full price).

I got Singleton from Tesco really because it was on special offer - it's nice!

My go to whisky for people whose tastes I don’t know is Highland Park, because it’s an all rounder.

Flingingmelon · 16/12/2021 18:44

Whisky obsessed husband never complains about Old Pulteney, about that budget. But I think it depends on who you're buying for and how they like to drink it.

If they've got their own special water jug and gets distressed if anyone mentions ice, I'd by a bottle of wine instead Grin

Have you ever smelled the one your gift-receiver likes? If it smells of creosote, go for something from the west coast eg Talisker (lighter) Laphroaig (smokier). If it doesn't, try something from the east coast eg Aberlour (my favourite) or Glenmorangie.

You can get all of those for about £30 I think.

Thanks all, went for Aberlour in the end.

Aberlour is lovely but if anyone is looking for a non smokey whiskey try Penderyn

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 17/12/2021 11:34

That's interesting OldRaver - I tend to prefer non-smoky but didn't get on particularly with Penderyn. Might give it another try (I think we've got the last little bit left).
