Worried about Elderly neighbours

Very odd thing just happened.

We live in a semi detached house with a window off the landing, the glazing has a pattern and about 6ft away is next doors house who also have a window.

DS had just woken us up and I was carrying him back to his bedroom with all the lights off when a bright torch light was shined from next doors house into our window and waved around. It couldn’t have been from the street outside as I saw the source of the light.

What would have been next doors landing light flashed in and off a few times aswell.

I turned our main light on and off and next door did the same. There was also what looked light an attempt to shine the torch again but less purposeful.

Our neighbours are very elderly. The only time I’ve seen the go outside is to use a trolley to be to walk to their washing line. They have grandchildren but so far as I know they’re only there when their parents are there and there is no car on the drive.

I feel like I should do something. I’ve knocked the door but nobody came, everything is locked and it’s a porch door so I can’t call through the letter box. I have no contact details for them or their family.

DH thought I was silly to knock the door. But I’m worried that they might have fallen over or something. WWYD?

I hope there is a good outcome, my elderly neighbour fell down the stairs a few years ago and was laying there for hours. She recovered fully thankfully. She saw the postie through her glass front door and thankfully he heard her shouting.

Phew! Might be worth knocking on for a quick chat?

Very strange then! I can only think maybe he has a new smartphone and the torchlight bit turned on.

Just a thought but our hall light went funny during the week.
Switched it on and it was light a strobe, random flashing, youngest son came to say you having a rave there, mum?
Switched it off and had to use torch to see bulb to change it

Could it possibly be similar next door?

Another thing my husband uses light from phone or torch going to lavvy during the night

Glad they’re ok! Well done for taking it seriously though, they’re lucky to have you as

Glad they're ok, OP.

Now you know it wasn't an intruder, I wonder if they have a Hive light or similar, and were using the torch as the bulb was offline - to reboot the light you have to switch it on and off a few times, so perhaps that's what you were seeing, and they weren't actually responding to your light flashes at all.
