Maldives holiday in Easter of L6

We were supposed to be going to the Maldives in March 2020 - trip of a life time, BIG birthday present for me. It was obviously cancelled but the resort allowed us to postpone to 2022. (We said we couldn't do Easter 2021 as DD would be sitting her GCSEs that summer). Hollow laugh.

So we are now booked for next April 2022 for 2 weeks. We've just found out DD will have L6 end of year exams straight after Easter and these are important for her predictions for A levels. I assumed these would be after May half term.

Initial response is "bugger we will have to cancel" but:

1)There is no way to reschedule it again and we will lose all the money (a huge amount to us). There will be no holiday in the foreseeable future where this would be possible as we have a younger DD who will then be in the GCSE/Alevels zone. So it's now or quite probably never as a family.

2)I'm selfishly wondering whether actually the Maldives might be somewhere DD could revise. Not much else to do except a bit of snorkelling, lie in the sun.

If it was her actual A Level year I wouldn't even consider it but wondering if for L6 it's a possibility.

For context DD is very able and at a very academic school. Considering Oxbridge so predictions will be important. But we know Oxbridge is a huge long shot so not worth revolving everything around that.

Any advice/experience that might help?

Hello

Not sure what the question is here but I would not cancel and revolve around DD. If she is motivated and ambitious she will do just fine. Besides, revision should ideally start months before exams and not in the 2 weeks before. She can do the bulk before the holiday and then commit to 1/2 hours a day on holiday if she needs to. It will be a lovely treat and time to relax before exams.

I'm in my late twenties so can remember this time of my life and gosh, I would have LOVED to go on a fab holiday before exams to put me at ease!

Thanks, yes my question is "should we cancel?". Good point about not saving all the revision until the last 2 weeks.

will she miss the exams or just the revision time? if the exams then i dont think you should go, if its just revision then she can revise before you go and have a nice break away (with maybe a tiny bit of revision while there)

Will she stress If she can’t revise properly during that week? I think it depends on your DD’s personality, my DC actually asked me not to book any more Easter holidays once they were about 15 as they wanted to revise.

Sounds perfect for cramming just before exams. Bit of a swim in the morning, some revision, bit of a walk in the evening, good nights sleep. No friends as distraction. Go for it.

If she's very organised she should be mostly there before the holidays and can take revision notes with her. My dd did exactly this

She wouldn't miss any exams - we aren't taking her out of school at all. She is a bit of a stresser though
