I'll start: Sticking the knife in the toaster to pull out a stuck slice. I haven't died yet Xmas Grin

Echoesandsilence · 15/12/2021 16:52

Leave some lights on 24/7
Leave tv on standby
Leave the immersion on

OnthePiste · 15/12/2021 16:52

Sit on a cold wall or hot radiator (piles-apparently)

BlueThursday · 15/12/2021 16:54

Use tampons

Although, to be fair, that was only my mother. My father has expressed no sanitary wear opinions

allfurcoatnoknickers · 15/12/2021 16:55

Get a dog. I've got two. Grin.

My mum is baffled "but you have to walk them! Why would you want to do that every day?".

sunnyandshare · 15/12/2021 16:56

Eat before swimming. I remember growing up and being told that was certain to cause death!

inloveagain2022 · 15/12/2021 16:59

Smoking weed.

Still haven't watched the exorcist tho 😳

jmh740 · 15/12/2021 17:01

Chew gum because it looks 'common' I really struggled with this as I was allowed before mum met step dad when I was 7

Newpandrawer · 15/12/2021 17:01

I love this Grin

Pull faces - don't care if the wind changes

Lay the cat on his back and tickle his tummy - he entirely approves

Use drugs - very occasional these days

Swear - quite a lot

Wash knickers with towels - this will have me thrown off Mumsnet i know

Have a lie in, not get dressed immediately upon getting up (after washing obviously), or generally just have a chill out day.

Must. Be. Productive.

Hen2018 · 15/12/2021 17:07

Skip breakfast. Skip other meals and have 2 larger meals. Or 4 smaller meals. (Incredibly regimented eating as a family growing up, no idea why).

Go to bed late.

Have a shower every day. (One bath a week when young).

Show care and compassion towards my pets and children.

@Angelton

Your parents told you not to do that because it’s really dangerous to stick a knife in a toaster. You’re risking electrocution! Just because you’ve been lucky so far doesn’t mean it’s not super dangerous.
As I found out😳🤦🏻‍♀️
EishetChayil · 15/12/2021 17:09

Open things with my teeth.
Get tattoos.

HotSauceCommittee · 15/12/2021 17:11

Go to bed without cleaning my teeth.

Mother87 · 15/12/2021 17:13

@WilliamofBaskerville

Have the overhead light on, rather than sitting in semi-darkness with side lights on. (They were also allergic to any bulbs over 60w).
You mean "the big light" right?Grin
AngelinaFibres · 15/12/2021 17:16

Starting the second layer in a box of chocolates before the first layer is completely finished. Still makes me feel naughty whenever I do it .SmileSmile

Cluckycluck · 15/12/2021 17:17

Leave all the lights on
Leave electronics on standby
Eat cheese right before bed

Teaandscone · 15/12/2021 17:17

Gallivant!

No better way of spending your time.

Very true!

@Anystarinthesky

Staying on the phone for longer than a nano second.

Our landline phone was in the hall and I can still see my Dad pacing and glaring at me for being on it to chat to school friends! (After being with them all day!).

Anyone remember trying to pick up the phone in the hall, but the other phone would 'ding'? Or - maybe dreamt this - when the phone lock was onGrinyou could tap the number out with the sticky-up things??
Happy1982ish · 15/12/2021 17:19

Cross my ankles when I’m lying down

tiredvommachineasaurus · 15/12/2021 17:21

@SilverHairedCat same Grin

Slow in, fast out 🚓

SammyScrounge · 15/12/2021 17:23

She wouldn't let me wear pink because i had red hair. Now I have pink sweaters and blouses and skirts and a pair of high heeledd shoes. I feel like a queen when I wear pink.

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/12/2021 17:24

Put my own needs/ feelings first at times.

Asiama · 15/12/2021 17:26

So many! Some rules that I no longer follow:

Wear a hair clip
Don't wear trousers
Don't wear black tops
Don't wear make up
Don't dye your hair
Only wear gold jewellery
Don't speak when in public unless necessary
Don't swim
Don't run
Don't bare shoulders or knees
Don't learn to play the guitar
Don't socialise

That's just off the top of my head!

I've done this my whole adult life. Just very careful not to touch the actual toaster. I like living on the edge.
