Have you cancelled restaurant bookings

Reading just now that restaurants, hotels are losing bookings because of covid threat who's cancelling these bookings I wondered. Had a lovely lunch yesterday on Anglesey it was quiet but it is Tuesday. I'm off again next week for lunch again on 30th. No plans to cancel. But wondered if that's the norm

Yes, I don’t want to risk ruining Christmas for my family. I have an 85 year old father to consider.

JollyAndBright · 16/12/2021 07:15

Yes we’ve canceled a couple of bookings.

IMO it’s not worth the risk of spoiling Christmas,
Especially since mil (who spends Christmas Day with us) is high risk due to asthma and my sister is heavily pregnant.
I’d rather spend time with them than go out for something to eat.

@BernardsBum

I've just cancelled a birthday lunch booked for Friday at a nice restaurant, and that I was really looking forward to - the birthday girl has got Covid Sad
I suspect this is responsible for a lot of thw cancellations. People would with covid rather that the fear of cancelling.
bengalcat · 16/12/2021 07:16

Four of us going out tomorrow so no have not cancelled .

AuntieMarys · 16/12/2021 07:20

No...got 5 meals booked before 25th. Will be attending every one

neveroutofthekitchen · 16/12/2021 08:35

I went out on Tuesday night - pub then restaurant. Both places were eerily quiet. Restaurant manager told us he had had 14 cancellations with only 3 booking left (incl us) for the night. He said word in the hospitality industry is that they will be shut down between Christmas and New Year.

justasking111 · 16/12/2021 13:38

Jakers so quiet here today in town I think I will suggest to OH we eat out tonight

I have cancelled our Boxing Day lunch, it's mostly due to the fact I'm heavily pregnant and my MW is advising us to "lay low" between now and due date. I'll still be going to my parents for Christmas Day dinner as planned.

lastqueenofscotland · 16/12/2021 13:46

Not restaurant but had a group booking for Friday for drinks that everyone was so twitchy about we’ve cancelled

Takingabreakagain · 16/12/2021 14:00

I've just booked a family meal out for next week to celebrate a birthday.
I'm not worried about going out where other people are and will try to go on another occasion just to give some support to local restaurants who've struggled so much with lots of scaremongering from government over a mild variant and no help at all. It's shocking how badly they are being treated, this affects so many livelihoods both in the industry and their supply chains.

AlternativePerspective · 16/12/2021 14:04

I think that cancelling office group nights out is the responsible thing to do. Individual meals is very much a personal thing.

My DP’s works Christmas party is on Friday but he’s on leave this week and they were badgering him to go. I’m glad he’s not tbh as if he catches COVID he could either be stuck on his own over Christmas or end up bringing it back to me and I am vulnerable.

Angel2702 · 16/12/2021 14:07

No we have a Boxing Day booking for my sons 13th birthday. He had a miserable birthday in lockdown last year, don’t want his 13th to be the same.

BumCatSmile · 16/12/2021 14:08

I still don't know anyone who has knowingly had covid! It's so weird. None of my friends or family have had it.

Maybe where I live there just hasn't been much about. Or the people I know have been symptomless. I don't know how we've escaped.

CelebrateAndDream · 16/12/2021 14:13

I've just had to cancel a lovely afternoon with friends on Saturday...drinks and a meal...as I'm showing symptoms following 'close contact' with a positive case (track and trace called yesterday to let me know!). Had a PCR this morning, but feel pretty grotty to be honest.

If I'd been well though...I'd be going! I may still go if my PCR comes back clear in time and I feel ok!

Lindy2 · 16/12/2021 14:15

We switched to an outside table and specifically changed our restaurant choice to one that has a large, covered outside area with heaters.

I'll carry on going out for now but I will alter how and where as I'm sticking mainly to outside activities right now.

Do you have children in school? I doubt there's a class anywhere without at least one case since this all started 😢

My own class (Year 2) have had 19 out of 30 testing positive since we went back this September, and my class from last year had 5 positive cases. Most of our staff have had it...and I'm currently waiting the results of a PCR at home with symptoms 🤦‍♀️

Funmum34 · 16/12/2021 14:21

I have no intention of cancelling our new years meal out unless restaurant decides not to open

Justcannotbearsed · 16/12/2021 14:27

Isolating over Christmas would get complicated so I'd rather play it a bit safe, so we cancelled a big do in a room with lots of other randoms that probably wouldn't have been very ventilated.

But are going out for a nice lunch in a restaurant that is big and airy, not too busy and with other people we know are reasonably self contained.

Also got a couple of family meals out that are again quite self contained that we will probably not cancel...but not quite sure.

milly74 · 16/12/2021 14:27

No this lockdown by stealth is outrageous

Justcannotbearsed · 16/12/2021 14:29

If it was just me and DH over Christmas we'd be out and about. CEV in laws though and just don't want to end up complicating Christmas with isolating.

BumCatSmile · 16/12/2021 14:35

@dotsandco No I don't, and most of my friends don't have children. That's probably why, I guess none of us are exposed to children that mix with hundreds of other children all week.

zafferana · 16/12/2021 14:53

We're not cancelling anything, although we don't currently have any restaurant bookings. But we're going into London tomorrow for an appointment, and DH is taking the DC to see new Spiderman film at the weekend.
