Reading just now that restaurants, hotels are losing bookings because of covid threat who's cancelling these bookings I wondered. Had a lovely lunch yesterday on Anglesey it was quiet but it is Tuesday. I'm off again next week for lunch again on 30th. No plans to cancel. But wondered if that's the norm

No, I have been out a few times in the past few weeks but picked restaurants that I knew had large gaps between tables, good ventilation as well. However, at one of the dinners I was at one person did not attend because she was nervous of Covid.

HopefulProcrastinator · 15/12/2021 16:41

Yes. Cancelled a meal for two on Friday.

Was meant to be a festive catch up with my friend but as we've both got CEV relatives that need taking care of over the Christmas period when district nurse cover massively reduces to weekend/bank holiday levels we were both getting twitchy about how sensible it would be.

We definitely booked in a fit of optimism in October when a Christmas meal catch up sounded like a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

However, the restaurant does do pre-ordered meal delivery if you live local enough so they're not losing much of our custom as non-drinkers. We'll just eat in her place which is as low risk as we can get without traipsing around the countryside. I do feel for these places that are having to bend over backwards just to stay afloat though.

Had lunch today at a restaurant in the City of London. Very quiet. Half empty

drawhander · 15/12/2021 17:26

It's never been safer as everyone is at home. Trains, restaurant, streets, xmas
Market, shops. All empty

OhGiveUp · 15/12/2021 17:35

No. I'm still going to my works Christmas do on Friday night, especially as it's all paid for by the company.
Praying the place won't cancel.

MrsDThomas · 15/12/2021 17:55

Absolutely NOT. Keep them going. I don’t waste life on what ifs. Live it and enjoy.

thewhatsit · 15/12/2021 18:01

@KirkstallAbbess

God no. In fact I've bagged a couple of bookings due to others cancelling.
I keep saying to DH were it not for the young DC we’d be doing this.

I kept seeing people in summer 2020 getting bookings for all these places that it’s normally really hard to get into and I was SO jealous.

IncessantNameChanger · 15/12/2021 18:01

Nope. School parents meet up, Christmas lunch at garden centre this weekend with dh children then DHS work night out to look forward to.

It will much needed as it seems my sister wants the kids over her house for a Christmas catch up. So no real plans to see family over Christmas as they are all nervous I have no one except my own nuclear family to worry about in some ways. my mental health is on a string as it is.

justasking111 · 15/12/2021 21:58

Glad to see rational balance on here people weighing up their circumstances before deciding how to organise their Xmas

A group I belong to cancelled one for this evening.

countdowntonap · 15/12/2021 22:14

I have three meals booked on Anglesey this weekend, and no intention of cancelling.

Crunchymum · 15/12/2021 22:18

Meal on 18th is cancelled as one of the party has Covid and a few of the others don't want to risk it so close to Christmas.

A few of us may well meet for wine and pizza at a local place (we want to save the actual restaurant booked for when we can all be there). Although I am now waiting on a Covid test for DC2. So I may well have to bail too.

kirinm · 15/12/2021 22:21

I will probably cancel a table I have for next week. I'm in London and it feels like everyone is dropping. I really don't want to screw up Christmas plans. After Christmas I'm not bothered and I'll go out then.

Six of us dining on 23rd one is a doctor so if she's okay with it I shan't worry. This is in a home rather than a restaurant.

It is annoying the jumping on the cancelling bandwagon, then they will expect restaurants and bars to still be there when it next suits them

You realise that if people get covid now, they are likely not going to be able to see family etc? Or are we meant to take the risk?

@justasking111

Well Wales government have decided
What does limited capacity mean? Who decides the king?
kirinm · 15/12/2021 22:52

Sorry that should have said 'who decides the limit'?

MrsPsmalls · 15/12/2021 22:55

Our NHS trust has just banned all Christmas events, so that's a lot of cancelled bookings

Amberflames · 15/12/2021 22:56

Cancelled but not through choice. I have covid.

Enzbear · 15/12/2021 23:02

Been out for a celebration meal tonight and restaurant was full, no one wearing masks. Glad to see it, all this hype will shut places down and people will lose jobs and livelihoods, then everyone will catch the bloody latest variant of the virus, that has been let loose, anyway.

ReeseWitherfork · 15/12/2021 23:03

I've backed out of a meal for Friday night. Chris Whitty told me to. And in all seriousness, it just wasn't worth it for me, I don't want to take the risk.
