Reading just now that restaurants, hotels are losing bookings because of covid threat who's cancelling these bookings I wondered. Had a lovely lunch yesterday on Anglesey it was quiet but it is Tuesday. I'm off again next week for lunch again on 30th. No plans to cancel. But wondered if that's the norm

Didn’t have to, booked last week and couldn’t go as restaurant closed due to covid.

Deisogn · 15/12/2021 23:04

We've decline a softplay party invite for this weekend....I'm really not sure what they're thinking. I've just cancelled a restaurant booking for a friends' Christmas night out. It's just not worth. Anything from here on out could mean being very I'll over Christmas Day itself.

Blinky21 · 15/12/2021 23:05

Me, don't want to risk my Christmas plans being ruined by covid. My dad is CEV

Allywill · 15/12/2021 23:13

I haven’t cancelled anything - but admit I am worried about restaurants cancelling due to staff shortages etc. have a hotel plus meal booked in Manchester on 29/12 and it would be a real shame if we couldn’t go but wouldn’t spoil Christmas. What about people with Christmas Day booked - if the restaurant had to shut that would be pants!!!

weegiemum · 15/12/2021 23:13

We have a lunch booked at a very nice restaurant for our anniversary between Christmas and New Year and I'll be gutted if it gets cancelled. It took months to get the table as they got a Michelin star and so became ridiculously busy, though we've been going for years!

SquigglePigs · 15/12/2021 23:17

Yes. My friend and I were meant to be going out tonight. We cancelled in favour of a takeaway at home. Still got to see each other but no exposure to anyone else. To minimise my guilt for local businesses we got the takeaway from the same restaurant we were going to have dinner at. I know they've lost the revenue from the drinks but hopefully better than nothing. It's such a difficult choice and balance at the mo!

GroggyLegs · 15/12/2021 23:25

My team night out has been cancelled as 2 of the 6 dont want to go are nervous about covid.
The restaurant was so nice about it, I'll make sure we rebook ASAP Sad

We have a table booked for out anniversary 23rd - just the 2 of us; and a 40th birthday on 28th which I still hope to go to but will decide nearer the time.

Borris · 15/12/2021 23:46

I've cancelled 3 meals out in the next week. Nothing is more important than seeing my family this Christmas so I'm not risking that. I'm guessing the majority that are continuing would still have a houseful that they live with so wouldn't be isolating all alone. Single people like me would literally be sat home alone if I test positive now Sad

justasking111 · 16/12/2021 00:03

I wonder once we get Xmas day out of the way if we'll book meals out again

BurntO · 16/12/2021 00:04

I’d imagine most work gatherings are being cancelled and they will have a lot of reservations this time of year

DENMAN03 · 16/12/2021 00:08

My work Christmas lunch tomorrow was cancelled. I have family coming over from France I haven't seen for 2 years so don't want to risk catching it before then, plus I have 11 round for Xmas day!

Same here.. I would be gutted ! Testing daily at the moment as a friend I was with at the weekend tested positive on Monday.
BiddyPop · 16/12/2021 00:10

I haven't cancelled but I haven't made any bookings.

DH has cancelled a booking for tomorrow evening.

dreamingbohemian · 16/12/2021 00:19

I was out twice this week but today we decided not to go out til Xmas. Not just because of the news but because all of a sudden everyone seems to be coming down with it (we're in London)

My DH is working crazy hours in food retail next week, that will be quite a lot of exposure already

I understand people feel bad for pubs and restaurants but the best thing we can do is limit the spread of the new variant now, otherwise they will be closed for months again

(I was a waitress for 10 years btw, before anyone says I don't care about hospitality)

antisocialsocialclub · 16/12/2021 01:09

I have a table booked for me and DP Sat eve, my isolation ends tomorrow and I hoping we can go but if I’m still coughing it’ll have any symptoms I’ll have to cancel, for others well bring really.

And so flipping gutted as booked this ages and was really looking forward to it.

Hopefully we can still go.

ilovesooty · 16/12/2021 01:38

I'm going to have to cancel a booking for next Tuesday. The friend I was going with has tested positive today.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/12/2021 02:23

We haven't personally (both DH and I are now triple jabbed), but DS waits in the local pub part time and has had shifts cancelled. It's also been really quiet when we've been in, though their normal clientele is more on the elderly side, which may have a bearing.

Macmickmoo · 16/12/2021 03:21

We have with people who we have a business relationship with. Out of concern for the people we were dining with - catching Covid before Christmas would potentially ruin it for them being unable to travel to meet their families or have their families visit. Most of our personal events are still going ahead.

natrew · 16/12/2021 03:44

Yes. 2 work dos cancelled, 1 was whole workforce, the other my smaller team.
Cancelled a meal out at the weekend as 3 out of 5 of the family we were meeting were positive. Was supposed to be out last night with friends but 2 out of 6 are positive and one is still recovering after having it almost a month ago.
Got a lunch planned with friends next week, one of the group texted last night to say husband has just tested positive.
I'm in London, and it feels like I know more people positive in the last couple of weeks than throughout the whole pandemic.

KatherineJaneway · 16/12/2021 04:50

I haven't cancelled any but that's because I haven't booked anything since early last week. I will not have Christmas cancelled like it was last year so am not going out.

Tabbacus · 16/12/2021 06:49

I hope the restaurants are keeping people's deposits at least, christmas takings usually help as a buffer over the quieter months.

lololololollll · 16/12/2021 07:02

Pls don't, my restaurant isn't going to survive!

Tayegete · 16/12/2021 07:05

I’ve cancelled a two day trip away before Xmas in a busy city plus some planned activities where there will be lots of people on other days. My priority is seeing family on Xmas day. There’s a surprise party for a relative on Saturday which I’m nervous about but don’t feel I can not go. I though Chris Whittys advice was very measured and has made me reconsider my plans to focus on what’s important.

OddBoots · 16/12/2021 07:05

Or (adult) children are still going out and about, DH and I aren't but we hadn't got anything booked anyway as this is a busy time at work for both of us.

The thing that has changed is that each household of our extended family that is due to meet on Christmas Day has already exchanged (unopened) presents and has a Plan B meal in for the day in case we test positive at the last minute and can't gather.
