School asking for PCR

Generalpost · 15/12/2021 10:21

Dd has a positive lateral flow. But the school is asking for PCR test . The postage one takes a day or so to get here. I'm not taking her to one of the testing sites as thats not fair if she not well . Also I don't drive so would be walking /busing so that's not right either. But they won't authorise her absence unless she has one . What is the point of the lateral flow if its not acceptable.

Presumably they'll authorise her absence once you have the PCR? I'm not sure what the problem is?

Porfre · 15/12/2021 10:24

Get a postal PCR

PatchworkElmer · 15/12/2021 10:24

Get one posted then. Simple.

They should authorise while waiting on results.

But of course you need to do a PCR!

upthekyber · 15/12/2021 10:25

Because you don't use lateral flow when you have symptoms it is to try and pick up asymptomatic cases therefore if you then are positive it need to be confirmed by pcr. If your daughter is symptomatic then you just wasted a LFT as you should just jump to PCR.

lliitttlepiinkhouse · 15/12/2021 10:26

Presumably she will have an authorised absence while waiting for the result of a postal PCR?

Op, I don;'t understand the point of your post, what do you expect the school to do?

MarmitesMyMate · 15/12/2021 10:30

Just get one. Or have unauthorised! Simple.

Otherwise how many families would day oh dd / ds had a positive lft so they could have a day off / holiday or whatever

pastypirate · 15/12/2021 10:39

Sounds annoying but unless you are already an attendance concern what's the big deal?

bhsjaoiremansjdleoo · 15/12/2021 10:50

Positive LFTs are easy to fake with a bit of orange juice. They need the PCR result to confirm. Also just get a postal one, it's really not a big problem.

daisybrown37 · 15/12/2021 10:56

My sons postal one arrived the day after ordering and I had the results back within 24 hours of posting.

santasmuma · 15/12/2021 11:11

The postage one takes a day or so to get here

Why does this matter? She is I'll be doing the 10 days isolation anyway, so just order a postal and let school have the result when you get it.

Itsalmostanaccessory · 15/12/2021 11:28

Just get the posted one. She needs the PCR done. What is the point of this post?

TinselTitsAndGlitteryBits · 15/12/2021 13:47

DDs school always ask for PCR tests too. The lateral flows are too easy to fake.

DD has only had to have one when she had cold symptoms, it was negative so I called the school to let them know and they didn't even ask to see the proof - which I thought was odd. They just took my word for it

Orangelimes · 15/12/2021 15:07

It’s not just the school - government guidance says that if you get a positive lateral flow, you need to get a pcr done. School are merely following government guidelines.

100problems · 15/12/2021 15:10

Just get a bloody postal one. LFT are not counted in national statistics. Disclaimer I'd have more sympathy if I didn't also have Covid and just drive to a Walk In.
