Have you had hypnotherapy? Did it help? What kind of problem you had and how long did it take time for it to help?

I had several session to try and cure my extreme stress and anxiety. Relaxing whilst there doing it, no lasting effects at all.

MartyHart · 14/12/2021 21:41

Yes it helped me, I had it for fear of flying. It only took one session and although I'll never love flying I can now do it without worrying for weeks before and without the terror I used to feel.

Twoweekcruise · 14/12/2021 21:45

I have had gut directed hypnotherapy 4 separate times for my IBS. Lovely and relaxing at the time but it hasn’t had any major positive effect on my symptoms.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 14/12/2021 21:46

Smoking, one session, never touched a cigarette since, that was thirteen years ago

Sunsetsupernova · 14/12/2021 21:47

I’m severely emetophobic (fear of sick). I had about 6 sessions of hypnotherapy while I was going through a very extreme period of it.
I’m afraid it did absolutely nothing to help. However, I do believe this was down to the therapist I worked with. I have heard that emetophobia is a very specific phobia and requires specialist knowledge which she didn’t have. She just kept telling me that even she didn’t like being sick Hmm
If I hadn’t been under time pressure to find someone I would have gone with someone with more experience in my specific phobia but it was incredibly difficult to find someone who had availability at the time.

Yes, for weight loss/healthy eating.

I’m pleased with the result.

Nilbog · 14/12/2021 22:00

How many sessions did you have @CormoranStrike?

Totallydefeated · 14/12/2021 22:04

Yep, for anxiety and fertility.

I no longer have the severe GAD I had. I also got pregnant after having it for fertility, on the cycle before I was about to do IVF!! So I saved at least £10k and have my DD.

Can you tell I’m a fan?! Grin

CormoranStrike · 14/12/2021 23:11

@Nilbog

How many sessions did you have *@CormoranStrike*?
I’ve had three so far, have lost a stone and haven’t been tempted to snack at all.
Nilbog · 16/12/2021 23:03

That sounds great @CormoranStrike. Do you attend sessions in person or online?

DaisyNGO · 16/12/2021 23:06

I tried it for weight loss

It wasn't helpful but also the therapist was much, much fatter than I am. I couldn't help feeling I was set up to fail and only had two sessions (the first was free and weirdly I ended up getting a discount on the second).

Mooscow · 16/12/2021 23:07

You can find free hypnotherapy sessions for things like anxiety on YouTube if you want to try it out for free. I like Tansy Forrest.

DH, multiple phobias over many years, caused by mother walking out (going off with another man) sociaphobia, xenophobia, agoraphobia. He's from Sarf London, thinks (thought) it was a load of bollocks. It helped to a degree, but he should have gone back for more sessions. He wasn't keen being treated by a woman. I did her relaxation CD,and was amazed

CormoranStrike · 16/12/2021 23:10

@Nilbog

That sounds great *@CormoranStrike*. Do you attend sessions in person or online?
Mine were in person, and then I was went mo3 files to listen to at home
CormoranStrike · 10/01/2022 11:27

@nilbog I thought you might like an update.

I’ve had four sessions now - I lost weight over Christmas and New Year (simply didn’t want to overeat) and have had a traumatic life event and still stayed on track.

I’ve not gone from 15 and a half stone to 14 stone one, and am still finding my new eating habits are coming naturally. I would really recommend it.

CormoranStrike · 10/01/2022 11:28

*now gone

Nilbog · 10/01/2022 16:13

Thanks @CormoranStrike, I did indeed like your update, thank you.

I'm sorry to hear about your traumatic experience though, I hope you've got some support.

Would you feel comfortable sharing the details of the hypnotherapist or roughly where you are in the world?

MonkeysandParrots · 10/01/2022 16:23

@CormoranStrike hope you don’t mind but I’d be interested in the therapist details as well please.

CormoranStrike · 10/01/2022 16:31

Hi both - I live in central Scotland. I would be happy to share any details via PM, message me if you want them.

I believe she does it cos zoom too.

Traumatic experience - yes, thank you, getting there.
