Would you report cocaine use at the Christmas party?

Nevertime · 14/12/2021 20:56

A member of staff was seen using and offered it to others too.

It's not something I do and I'd think it completely inappropriate. I wasn't there, but I'm not sure I'd have reported it.

It has been reported and staff member is suspended pending an investigation.

Would you have reported?

My works Christmas party was totally cancelled 12 years ago because of cocaine usage at parties which got into the newspapers (big 4 bank)

MindTheGapMoveAlong · 15/12/2021 00:43

Yes.

Shouldigonontraditional · 15/12/2021 00:45

I’m a teacher too, wouldn’t report as it’s up to individuals what they do in their own time. Would be very different if the cocaine was in the school somehow.
Surprised they did that at a works do, foolish.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 01:05

Totally agree @Lockheart. It might be ‘in their own time’ but it was likely
in the hands of vulnerable children before it got to them. A teacher doing cocaine shows a total lack of regard for safeguarding.

DahliaBlue · 15/12/2021 01:05

I probably would not report as I would not want to ruin a colleagues life and reporting one person won't stop the drugd trade.

The drugs trade is horrific and I wish the back story were more publicised to shame recreational users. However I believe in personal freedom so my solution would be to legalise so supply can be properly controlled and profits feed back into society. It would be like alcohol.

AnotherMansCause · 15/12/2021 01:07

I was going to post another Youtube link but I thought it might get deleted. Search "The deadliest cartel in Mexico" & you'll find it. TRIGGER WARNING it's extremely graphic from the start, with images of murder victims, albeit they are generally either covered up, pixelated or in the distance. DO NOT WATCH IT IF YOU'RE EASILY UPSET OR HAVE CHILDREN NEARBY.

If you can watch that to the end & still think drug use is not worth reporting, just a victimless bit of fun, I just don't know. Your bit of Saturday night fun obviously rates as more important than those people's lives & deaths.

Ajl46 · 15/12/2021 07:18

@Tee20x

Don't get people who report others for things like this how does it benefit you? Too much going on in my own life to concern myself with others. Presumably those who were offered either turned him down or joined in? He wasn't ramming it up their noses or spiking people?
Cuts down on county lines, gang violence, money laundering and exploitation of the vulnerable.
U8976532 · 15/12/2021 07:20

In my current line of work yes, but in my previous jobs no I'd keep my nose out (literally and figuratively ha)

Truthseeker456 · 15/12/2021 07:58

As a teacher yes absolutely

RampantIvy · 15/12/2021 08:02

@Nevertime

I have to admit I'm surprised how shocked the rest of the staff seem to be.
Why? If cocaine use is not usual in your circles then it isn't unreasonable to be shocked. I don't know anyone who uses it and have never seen anyone using it either.
ImInStealthMode · 15/12/2021 08:04

Reported probably not, but said something to them myself almost definitely.

I suppose it depends on the size of the company; mine is about 18 people so everyone knows each other fairly well, if there were 1800 employees I suppose not.

gogohm · 15/12/2021 08:06

If on school premises yes, in a venue where they have paid for their own costs to be there no unless I was slt

peboh · 15/12/2021 08:27

Considering that cocaine can show on a drug test up to 3 days after you've taken it, yes I would. I wouldn't feel comfortable knowing that someone was working with children who was taking drugs all weekend.
I'm no naive enough to believe it isn't happening, but if you have proof, I don't know why you wouldn't report it. All those saying no, would you happy knowing that it was your child's teacher who had been found snorting?

time2tork · 15/12/2021 08:31

Not sure if I'd report it.. I don't think it's appropriate at a work party.

However I used work in a corporate world and all the big bosses would be on it at the Christmas party while the rest of us stayed professional in front of them, too scared to actually have fun, while they all went wild on the dance floor!

NashvilleQueen · 15/12/2021 08:39

There's no fair trade in cocaine. Put the death, devastation and exploitation that lies behind it out of your mind as much as you like but it's the reality.

I am not sure I would report tho I would really judge those involved and keep my distance. Also coke heads are just so tedious.

TheWeeDonkey · 15/12/2021 08:43

@milkysmum

No. I don't use myself, but as a nurse I know lots of colleagues who do on nights out, plenty of social workers also who work in our team. Ex's friend was a teacher ( head of department) and he was a regular Cocaine user on a weekend. It's very common unfortunately.
Its pitiful isn't it?

I'm just watching on the news about another beautiful little child murdered in her own home under the watch of so called professionals. Its all part of the cycle of people who are paid to care not caring and not wanting to be "that person" and its kids who suffer (but not our kids, someone else's kids so thats okay) so we can be cool. What a world.

namechangeforthispost123 · 15/12/2021 11:10

Reporting one person won't change the need for supply. It could devastate that individuals life though and again, you have no idea why they feel the need to take it.

The government could do more, much of the economy is propped up on drug money.

Introduce bi-weekly drug testing to all workplaces (much cheaper to produce and easier to use than LFT) even make people who claim benefits take the test.... With consequences. Then you'd see the demand reduce.

garlictwist · 15/12/2021 11:15

No I wouldnt report it. It's up to them if they want to do cocaine. Nothing to do with me.

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/12/2021 11:21

@Lockheart

5+

This thread is extremely interesting reading given the context of some recent horrible court cases involving child abuse. On threads discussing those cases people emphasise the need to report any suspicious and lament those who don't.

Yet on this thread we have:

"Grown adults don't report others"
"Keep your beak out"
"Mind your own business"
"Snitches get stitches"
"I'm not a sanctimonious twat"

It's an interesting dichotomy when you consider the level of child abuse in the supply chain of these drugs.

Presumably they're the wrong sort of children though, and A-OK to exploit and abuse since you're getting a personal benefit from it.

I completely agree @Lockheart

I’m amazed at all these people who say they wouldn’t report it. Can’t stand this walk on by society. I would absolutely report it as I would any breaking of the law. If not reported it could possibly have disasterous consequences eg cocaine being used by a young person who then gets addicted and messes up their life.

We need to completely change our thinking on ‘snitching’. It’s a GOOD thing, as members of society we all need to look out for each other and call out wrong doing.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 11:22

@namechangeforthispost123 maybe there being consequences for their (illegal) actions would act as a deterrent to others, such as the people on this thread who think it’s no big deal or the people they were offering it to. If they don’t want their life ruined by the enforcement of the law then they shouldn’t be breaking it!
I have more sympathy for people who are addicted to heroin etc but limited sympathy for people taking party drugs.

NutsFromSainburys · 15/12/2021 11:25

Teacher during a work party? Of course' you'd want to report it. Cocaine is highly addictive, not the best idea for school staff.

NutsFromSainburys · 15/12/2021 11:25

Or anyone really.

FTEngineerM · 15/12/2021 11:28

There's no fair trade in cocaine. Put the death, devastation and exploitation that lies behind it out of your mind as much as you like but it's the reality.

You could substitute cocaine in that paragraph for: diamonds, palm oil, oil, coal, lithium… etc

The list goes on, do you feel the impact of every exploitation that has occurred to get you that electronic device you’re tapping away on. With your mica encrusted face?
