Is there a shortage of heating engineers?

DS's boiler is leaking and he can't use the central heating. This happened over a week ago and even though he has the full Home Care cover from British Gas they can't get anyone to him until New Years Eve.

He's tried other companies, and one guy said he could come today, but then said he couldn't, so he's just got to wait. This is in central London.

He isn't grumbling about it, it's very mild and he's got hot water, but we are now hearing about other people who are worse off, who have no water or heating, and they still can't get anyone to come out for weeks, even for quite elderly people.

I've told him he should train as a heating engineer - there is obviously a massive shortage!

Trades of any description are like gold dust in my corner of Scotland.

Tell him to search the GasSafe register online, you can enter a postcode and it will bring up all the registered engineers in area, including who they work for and contact numbers.

Will do, thanks for that.

We live in a rural area, it's always possible to find someone who will fix stuff, I'm just amazed it's so bad in London.
