Silkies
They want to know about the farm chickens because there has been an extensive outbreak of bird flu among farmed chickens recently (and it is ongoing). The risk of bird to human transmission is low, but it has happened.

Yankydoodledandy · 19/01/2022 19:53

Ive just eaten red kebab meat from the chippie and now feel stuffed and sick

Silkieschickens · 19/01/2022 19:53

Your width looks in range but they tend to be 6 footish though all in cms, some of these are 195cms tall and appearance is a bit different to yours.

Yes the chicken regulations cover our silkies as well and we have to keep them under cover though ours are always under cover as silkies are fragile with rain / wet. It was just strange as it wasn't an NHS question but the NHS did say the private hospital was stricter than them. Keep getting nervous every e-mail now isn't a covid positive result, should not be as have been isolating but so much of it everywhere atm and I've had to go to hospital.

Silkieschickens · 19/01/2022 20:00

DH has sent me an e-mail to say sent Boden package back and collected other one and collected 2 Dunelm orders and off to McDonalds to get food for me and him (his French mother would be completely horrified). Told him he was a superstar but he is also in trouble with Silkiecat for doing tasks other than ones Silkiecat has set.

IWanderedLonely · 19/01/2022 20:55

Miss Andy & Lance are working class. Andy's girlfriend Becky (& her mum) are middle class (lower) I would say. Others may disagree Smile.

MissConductUS · 19/01/2022 21:25

Welcome, @Yankydoodledandy, from an actual Yank Smile and thanks for sharing your chippy shop news. I hope your stomach feels better soon.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

DH was given a 'Grie Soß' starter pack for christmas and I am looking forward to see if we can get the herbs to grow in time for the season. This article explains it better (it is faulty when it explains the name Gründonnerstag, though). Grie Soß
Prok, that sauce sounds gorgeous!
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/01/2022 22:08

@Nydj DH loves it and tries to get it whenever he is in Frankfurt. starter kit
Luckily those herbs can grow together. We are going to start next month.
(Oh, and the day before godfriday is not green /grün, but grein = crying / mourning)

Nydj · 19/01/2022 22:29

I love the idea of that sauce with boiled potatoes - so perfect!

HildaTablet · 20/01/2022 08:49

That sauce would be amazing with something like cold poached salmon

MissC my mind is boggling at the idea of a fridge with an inbuilt microwave. There seems something counter-intuitive to having a cooking (heating) element as part of a cooling device, but that's probably just me being fearful.

I remember when I first saw what we'd call an 'American fridge' - it belonged to friends who lived in a huge house (they had a beautiful swimming-pool in an attached building that was bigger than our own house at the time, that's how huge it was) - the fridge was also very big, with double doors, and boasted an integrated ice-cube maker, which seemed impressive to me. Not that we have much call for a lot of ice here, except in very hot summers.

MissConductUS · 20/01/2022 13:20

Hilda, it is rather an odd concept. I've never seen one in retail appliance stores, so I think that they are made specifically for the rental market. DS does use the microwave, mostly for making microwave popcorn, which makes him quite popular with the other students in his hall. The dorms have communal kitchens, but anything left in there is likely to get stolen nicked.

Americans love ice. Even in the winter, I drink ice water and juice drinks, lemonade, etc. with lots of ice.

My education on British culture continues thanks to The Detectorists. The accent was throwing me, but I have now determined that the show is set in northern Essex. IWandered, I think you are right about Becky and her mum. What's your assessment of Lance's current girlfriend Toni and his ex-wife Maggie?

It's snowing here again. I made it into work before it really started, so fingers crossed that it's not a problem going home.

Not heard anything from private hospital re covid test so hopefully means passed. Was trying to decide what to wear tomorrow as may have drain put in so need something button or zip up. Thought could wear the Boden cashmere cardigan just ordered but opened it to discover they sent the wrong thing and its a pullover head short sleeved cashmere top same as one already have, its in my size so will keep it but have messaged them as it costs less than the cardigan. Then remembered I ordered a fleece zip up jacket before and tried that on and fits fine so will likely wear that and some velvet trousers. Last time I just wore my velvet pyjamas and a bit tempted again as they are wrap top and the nurses did not mind at all but DH says I need to wear normal clothes. I will see how comfortable the zip up jacket is after washing, felt a bit stiff before and also its incredibly hot and not sure if the hospital will be very hot too.

DD has her interview at 4pm with Kings Maths School, she says she is doing it in the living room and I said well expect rabbit to bounce in and she said that is fine who would not want me and rabbit, he will help. Well its probably stands more chance than with Silkiecat in the dining room who will show her bottom and walk across the screen all the time. Though DS has taken all the sofa cushions off, they are back on now, but as soon as he is home at 3.15pm they will all be off again. Hmm

DS loves ice and my friend who has the American fridge her fridge makes ice, though when it was a primary school playdate every 5 minutes her daughter was saying Mummy I need more ice.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 20/01/2022 14:59

I'm a total convert to ice. If my drink isn't ice cold straight out of the fridge then I fill the glass with ice before I pour it in. I get all confused when I'm back in the UK and my drink comes with a couple of ice cubes.

I'm impressed at the height of UK American-style fridges. I wonder why they're so different?

Silkieschickens · 20/01/2022 15:21

The private hospital just called me and thought no they are phoning to tell me covid test was positive, have been isolating apart from medical appointments but its everywhere atm or to cancel operation, also a lot of this with staff going to isolate / having covid and they said would only get a call if covid positive. But was fine, phew just another covid questionnaire.

I am not sure I would be able to reach the top shelves of a 195cm fridge, think would need a ladder as well. Maybe there is high demand from 6 foot something men for American fridges in the UK. Confused I am surprised how tall some of them are considering the ceiling height of quite a few properties here. Though maybe you can make a hole in the ceiling and have a kitchen fridge with a mini fridge floor above. Grin

Silkieschickens · 20/01/2022 16:48

And the NHS hospital just rang and said how are you? So thought no it is a positive covid test. But nope she checked and its negative, phew. And was just reminding me I could get fluid build up after operation, same as operation last month. And very unlikely will put drain in and unlikely district nurses will come which I prefer.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2022 17:16

Glad to hear of your negative result, Silkies.

I have yet to be convinced about ice. I normally drink fizzy water, and it always seems to be colder than tap water in the summer, for some reason. In winter our cold tap water is really cold and I don't drink it.

DS had to have another round of ABs because his strep fought back against the penicillin. This time no shot but ten days of very stinky pills. He is feeling much better already, appetite returned, and revealed to me that he has been dating a special ed teacher for a few weeks now. He has form for keeping this sort of information under his hat.. I'm still a bit disappointed that he and his former GF broke up about six months ago. She was a truly lovely girl, loved cats, had fantastic hair. I knew at the time that she was out of DS's league and sort of expected it not to last.

Silkieschickens · 20/01/2022 17:46

Glad your DS is getting better Math

Nydj · 20/01/2022 19:01

Glad your DS is getting better, Math. I’m also glad you tested negative Silkies and hope your DD’s interview went well. All the very best for the op tomorrow.

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/01/2022 19:43

Glad you had a negative result and all best for tomorrow Silkie.

DB biopsy hasn’t shown one type of cancer but he has been referred to a different hospital for a different ( worse ) kind, he doesn’t know what was found on biopsy. DM doesn’t know which is hard on me. She is planning family thing for next month and has no idea. It’s so hard.

Aside from that DS is trying to stand.

I’m working my way through the new ALN bill for Wales which is different.

MissConductUS · 20/01/2022 20:06

Math, I'm going to guess they put him on Augmentin. Don't feel badly about your DS keeping things under his hat. DH and I know absolutely nothing about DS's romantic life at uni or if he's even had a girlfriend there. It's sort of don't ask, don't tell. He's a lovely young man, tall and good looking, so he won't have lacked opportunities. I do wonder though.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you Silkie.

Lemons, I'm puzzled by why your DB would have to be referred to a different hospital for a new biopsy. I hope his next result is normal too.

The reservoir is now mostly frozen over, and the ice is covered with snow. Winter is truly here.

I noticed the parks and rec dept has put up boards around one of the local tennis courts and flooded it to make an outdoor rink. Not many takers today as the high temp is a brisk 18F.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/01/2022 20:38

Stormy here with a tiny bit of wet snow.

Keeping - as always - my fingers crossed for you Silkie and all the best for your DD. Math is wonderful ( I am a subscriber to Numberphile on YT though it mostly goes over my head).

@mathanxiety I have calmed down. It wasn't so much the VOB - which is a very well constructed legal tool for both partners in construction contracts - but the young engineers who are not properly taught the legal side and who then try do things that could turn out to cost a lot of money. And poor little me has to go and talk to them about it. Grin

HelenaJustina · 21/01/2022 06:19

Good luck for today silkie hope it all goes smoothly.

I’m the daughter of the maths teacher so had ‘maths is fun’ message drummed in to me from an early age. I was using quite a lot of maths in work yesterday and it made me so glad I was confidently numerate don’t tell my Mum she was right

It’s going to be a mad day at work today, I can tell already, the full moon seems to have sent the entire school doollally this week.

HildaTablet · 21/01/2022 08:42

Adding my good wishes for Silkie, although I guess you're probably there by now.
