Is anyone up? Waiting on ambulance and could do with a handhold

I am so scared. I am having chest pain (not significant, just a tightening) but so many palpatations over the past 36 hours that have suddenly started happening all the time, not just when lying flat like last night.

Ambulance called (via 111) but they cant say how long it will be, which I understand.

I have DD2(14) upstairs and awake, worrying. DD1(24) is still asleep as she has additional needs and I dont want to worry her and then have to leave. DD2 is under instructions what to do in the morning if I am not here.

I am scared. Did I mention that Blush I am nearly 50, morbidly obese due to health issues and feeling that I can't breathe.

Have a hand hold from me, I hope you don’t have to wait too long.

Purplewithred · 13/12/2021 23:34

So sorry to hear this. Has anything like this happened before?

YetAnotherUserNameForMe · 13/12/2021 23:36

Nothing like this ever. Weirdly I am due to have a heart scan in January for an unrelated issue (starting new meds so they do a scan as a baseline) and I have noticed I have been very short of breath recently - I just put that down to an increase in weight.

Thanks for the handholdsFlowers

I'm sorry you are going through this, make yourself as comfy as possible to wait did the ambulance. Do you have a bag packed with what you need if you are admitted?

Sideswiped · 13/12/2021 23:36

The chances are that it will be ok.
I went to A&E several years back after having palpitations for five days. It turned out to be nothing to worry about, although I can see why you are worried. Palpitations feel horrible.
It's good that you will be checked to see if there's something going on.

YetAnotherUserNameForMe · 13/12/2021 23:37

The palpatations I thought were anxiety related, even though I couldnt figure out what I was anxious about - other than the abnormal heart rate.

Have you had a booster recently? I had terrible palpitations after my first vaccine.

MirrorMirrorApplePie · 13/12/2021 23:38

Can you play any soothing music to help you breathe (stay calm)… or can you watch tv, anything to take your mind off it?

Best of luck Flowers

I know I should get a bag packed, but I feel so unsteady on my feet that I am worried about going upstairsBlush

I am also worried about my cpap machine as without it I snore really badly, but I dont want to look like I am assuming I will be admitted by packing it up. I just cant think straight.

I really hope you are okay. I hope your younger daughter doesn't worry too much. Have you got a bag packed?

PrincessPaws · 13/12/2021 23:40

Another handhold here, hopefully it is something reasonably simple but I know how terrifying it is

I know posting about it here isnt really taking my mind of it, but it is really helping me think straight. I cant put music on as DD is in room next to me (downstairs bedroom) and she wakes really easy!

You'll be ok. Daffodil

WeAllHaveWings · 13/12/2021 23:40

Did you ask if you should try to get there yourself? I would, but my hospital is only a 15 min car ride away, and just now an ambulance could be longer. Hope you dont need to wait much longer

I had my booster early last week, and was really rough with it for a few days, but have been ok these past 3-4 days. That is something to mention though thank you Flowers

You poor thing! Pack everything you think you may need including the cpap machine, better to have it and not need it.

I hope everything is ok, I'm sure it will be Thanks

LaLaLouella · 13/12/2021 23:41

Don't worry about looking like you think you might be admitted - just do what works best for you!

Can your son help get your bag ready? It will make it much easier for you if you do have to stay...

PrincessPaws · 13/12/2021 23:41

And try not to worry about appearances. It's much better to pack what you need, and not use it, than to be worrying if you do have to stay in. No-one will know what us in your bag unless you tell them xx

Helpstopthepain · 13/12/2021 23:42

Could your daughter help pack, she might like to feel useful.
Don’t worry about the cpap, they’ll have one if you are admitted.

Hand holding from me Flowers

itsutterlyshit · 13/12/2021 23:42

Can you do some breathing exercises to help calm you down. Box breathing is a good grounding technique when anxiety hits. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4 and repeat. Concentrate on breaths and counting.
you will be a priority due to your symptoms and j hope you're not waiting too long. Just try and get as comfortable as you can while you wait. Make sure you take a phone charger with you so your daughters can keep in touch.

BeckySharpish · 13/12/2021 23:43

You need
Phone
phone charger
cpap
a big warm wrap
Warm socks
toothbrush
Ask dd2 to pack you small bag

Starcup · 13/12/2021 23:43

I went through a stage of palpitations that became more noticeable.

Once I noticed them, they seemed to get worse as I’d start panicking and then I’d feel a cold sweat and that I was going to pass out.

Turned out to be totally fine but it is terrifying. Your body tenses up and that can create a pain.

I also know a guy who ended up in A&E with chest pain and palpitations but it was a panic attack.

I’m not minimising it OP it’s just there could be another explanation. Let us know how you get on xxx

Sebastianthecoo · 13/12/2021 23:43

Don’t pack a bag, in the event that it is cardiac and hopefully it’s not then you shouldn’t be doing anything. I wouldn’t worry about your CPAP for tonight, you will probably be in a&e (if you go in) and you could use it there as its aerosol generating.

Call 999 back, not 111, if any changes or worsening and they can reassess. Try not to panic and I hope all is well.

AmIgoinghomeforXmas · 13/12/2021 23:44

I agree pack everything you might need.
Better to have it than not.

Hopefully the ambulance will come soon.
Is it too far away to take a taxi there?

WhoWants2Know · 13/12/2021 23:45

I went through a stage of having lots of palpitations and chest pains, and it turned out to be a simple vitamin deficiency. Try not to think the worst.
