I'm absolutely caught up in a very sytange series.
It's about a girl who had been 'unacceptably ugly' all her life and she was bullied horrendously for it. All very acceptable it seems to ostracise her for it 
Then her mum gets her plastic surgery for her eyelids and nose before she starts her new school as a freshman or whatever it is
Her mum is waiting with baited breath to hear how her first day went and does anyway like her yet?! Is she popular now?! All played out to be normal behaviour entirely
Very strange. And the basic plot is that the boy who bullied her badly when she was a pre teen is now in love with her and they get together, all is well, etc etc. Never mind that he was horrific to her as a child. It seems that's just fine in this culture
