No. 1 item on your Christmas dinner plate

We were talking about Christmas dinner and the must haves and the bits you would sacrifice. It would seem I am an oddity. I was the only one to put bread sauce at number one. With sage and onion stuffing coming a close second, followed by cranberry sauce. I would sack off the pigs and blankets and parsnips any day. Anyone else?

I can't belive people not liking bread sauce. I could just eat a bowl full with a spoon.
see also gammon and cold bread sauce & cranberry sandwiches later in the evening.

SickAndTiredAgain · 13/12/2021 18:02

Pigs in blankets.

That’s it, I don’t like roast dinners generally and Christmas dinner is no exception.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 13/12/2021 18:02

2. the kind that comes in a tin

minipie · 13/12/2021 18:03

Crackling or crispy goose skin (depends which meat we are having)
Sprouts with chestnuts

The rest of the meal … meh. I’m not a massive roast meal fan.

I do love the 11am champagne and sausage rolls / smoked salmon blinis though. Probably my favourite bit of the day.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/12/2021 18:15

I asked my 7yo this the other day, only the 3 of us so we don't go with a mega dinner so wanted to make sure I buy in the 'important' stuff. Her list went like this

"Stuffing balls and gravy

Oh and the little sausages with bacon and roast potatoes.

Ermmmmmmmm

You're going to make me have something vegetable like aren't you, then, I suppose peas are ok.....................

That's it all I really want but if you want some chicken you can, not turkey though, I don't like that!"

So Xmas dinner should be easy this year. Stuffing balls, gravy, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and peas.

Pascha · 13/12/2021 18:17
  1. Roast potatoes, obviously
  2. Stuffing
  3. All the veg

Except sprouts. They can go.

Also anything else saucy, except for mustard or horseradish on the side (we have beef).

I've never understood what bread sauce has to do with a plate full of gravy.

user1493494961 · 13/12/2021 18:19
