Which topics constantly reoccur on your local/town/village FB page?

Ours seems to have a vast number of pairs of glasses found, and lots of posts too where people have lost glasses and are asking if anyone has found them.

We're an average sized village and today alone 3 pairs of glasses have been found around the village in various locations.

OP posts:
HairyFeline · 13/12/2021 00:04

Oh that’s funny 😄
Here there is always a daily “sheep on road at X location”, twice daily “please pick up your dog poo” and a million times my absolute favourite “what day are the bins going out this week?”
Love it…salve to the soul to see these little every day things.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 13/12/2021 00:26

Parking and noise complaints here... also more and more people selling unwanted stuff. That's what market place and selling pages are for, not community pages 🤦‍♀️

nordica · 13/12/2021 00:34

Fly-tipped mattresses 😂

Mostly though it's "can anyone recommend a good builder/plumber/cake maker you've personally used and with reasonable prices"

  • cue lots of people recommending their partner's or best mate's business 🙄
KloppsTeeth · 13/12/2021 02:43

“Found a cat” which is just a cat walking through someone’s garden.

Lost cats, which aren’t lost, they just haven’t come back in at the usual time. They always turn up, often within a short space of time. This doesn’t stop the other people saying they have found a cat.

Dog shit.

New people moving into the area and posting “Hi, I’m a single mum with 3 kids. Great to be here and looking forward to meeting everyone”. Or “just moved into the area. Hoping to see you around”. Lots of (offline) theories on these being codes. Not many people reply, when they do it is “hello” and the op doesn’t reply again.

Dog shit.

Things people can’t be arsed to Google “what times are the buses into town?”

Suspicious cars/vans/people. Almost always not actually suspicious.

Dog shit.

Speeding. Parking. Traffic noise.

Local scrap man doing the rounds, “inbox me whacha got”.

And more dog shit. Sometimes with photos. Always a threat to out the owner but no one ever dares.

ivykaty44 · 13/12/2021 02:47

Over flowing bin complaints
Then complaints about the council not emptying litter bins
Then complaints about people not taking litter home
Then one week due to covid no green bin collection and people were very angry 😡

Soyouthought · 13/12/2021 03:18

Miniature Shetland’s on the road again and Pot holes

AgentProvocateur · 13/12/2021 03:22

Fireworks frightening people’s dogs on any night other than 5 november.

LadyCampanulaTottington · 13/12/2021 03:28

I’m in the expats group for my small Swiss city and right now it’s mostly “what are the covid restrictions for people coming from X country” or “has anyone seen cranberry sauce/frozen Yorkshires/Christmas crackers for sale in any local supermarkets?”

This time of year it’s also full of people complaining about boar and deer hunters breaking the hunting laws Hmm

thismeansnothing · 13/12/2021 03:30

People "trying car doors" . Just empty your car of valuables and lock the bloody car door. Ffs

Gingerkittykat · 13/12/2021 04:41

Old timers who are talking about village life 50 years ago.

Lost cats.

People posting pics of cats who have wandered into their gardens.

Tonight someone took one of the cats in and gave it a bed for the night.

People (me) telling people to stop feeding healthy cats and letting them into their house.

All hell broke loose when the council didn't empty the green bins (plastic and cans) one week and there was a lot of confusion about whether or not you left them on the street for a fortnight till the next collection.

Ffs2020 · 13/12/2021 04:49

There's a rooster that seems to enjoy wandering off. Every few days it's X, your rooster is at it again, can you come get him from Y garden.

Bad drivers are mentioned all the time, but it makes little difference as the drivers aren't local, so probably don't know about the Facebook posts.

Unescorted · 13/12/2021 05:11

Cardboard boxes.
Lost dogs
In the winter ( any time from September to May it seems) Snow and associated road closures.
In the summer (Feb to November) - people parking perfectly legally, but outside within 200m of a particular road. Posted without irony despite parking outside houses on a lower road when snow is forecast

Needdoughnuts · 13/12/2021 05:15

Ours is 'what's the local Hermes guy's number?' Or 'who's got my parcel?' Or 'parcel been delivered to me but not mine!' Or 'parcel just been thrown over wall, who do I report to?'. Ramping up even more now as Christmas approaches. I miss the 'anyone recognise this dog/cat/rabbit?' that was the old mainstay

BitchyHen · 13/12/2021 05:45

Moaning about pavement parking, moaning about fireworks, and post that's come to the wrong address mostly.
The big gossip this weekend has been a fight on the pub car park after closing.

EveningPrimeMinister · 13/12/2021 09:04

Very similar to you all. Cats, dog poo, bins, car parking and parcels.

This time of year
'Where are the best Christmas lights?' and 'Where can we see Father Christmas?'

emmathedilemma · 13/12/2021 09:15

I'm on two local groups, one is mostly:
cats being cats
lost dogs, glasses, gloves
stolen bikes and scooters
found bank cards / bus passes
nice scenic pictures of the beach
jokes about the price of a bacon roll

the other is a women only group, mostly frequented by people who don't seem to know that google exists, have so much disposable income they don't know what to do with themselves, and worry about not having order enough balloons for their 1 year old's birthday party. They're mostly unbearable (I turned it off my main facebook feed) and at the moment the majority of posts are looking to sell / buy / trade santa, theatre or lights experience tickets because someone forgot to book, doubled booked, or now has to self isolate because of Covid.

Smorgasborb · 13/12/2021 09:19

Many pictures of cats going about their usual business with a breathless message about the animal being lost

The same three dogs which are always on the loose

Questions about things that could be googled in half a second or that was recently posted several times on the same Facebook page

Escaped Llamas, chickens, sheeps, bees

ParkheadParadise · 13/12/2021 09:21

Police cars on X street anyone know what's happening?
Make-up/ nails appointments
Christmas eve boxes
Takeaway recommendations.
Lost cats/dogs Found cats/dogs.
How busy is the local shopping centre
People selling Christmas crap
Balloons mainly elf on the fucking shelf.

JSL52 · 13/12/2021 09:22

Parking , bins not being emptied, someone trying car doors.
'I've left a load of tatt I can't be bothered to take to the charity shop outside the gate - free '

DuneFan · 13/12/2021 09:24

Recent spate of:

Received this Christmas card posted to my house does anyone on here know a Bob would love to reunite it with its owner.
Frequently followed by that's my grandad who died six years ago.

Plus lots of lost bank cards!

lastqueenofscotland · 13/12/2021 09:27

There is one person who literally can’t use google. 3/4 times a day “when does aldi shut, does the train station have parking, what bus to x town” etc etc etc often the same question

A lot of grief about house prices

ClintBartonsWife · 13/12/2021 09:35

Moans about the new housing estate that has been here for a few years now but some vocal types haven't got over the loss of one field, in a town that is surrounded by fields. Moans about the fact that said houses are being bought by "incomers" who are not born and bred locals. I once asked what counts as a local, and did it include someone who was born in the nearest hospital which is in a town 20 miles away but no one could tell me Grin

Questions about housing availability from people moving to the area. Not sure if these are genuinely people moving to the area thanks to the new WFH normal, or people stirring up the moaners from above.

Dog muck posts are banned thankfully and admin deletes them pretty quickly.

Recommendations for local tradespeople, usually answered by said tradespeople or their families recommending themselves. The roofer is a particularly funny one because about twenty people with the same name as him always recommend him. He is actually very good at his job, I've used him myself!

Tip run person who posted everyday offering his services, but asked for DMs as "don't get notifications". Interestingly, he got notifications and responded very quickly when people started questioning if he had a licence and requests to show the licence. (Spoiler alert: he didn't have one available to show).

Moans about litter. Moans about services. Moans about anti social behaviour. Moans about traffic. Moans about planned events that happen every year at the same time causing traffic. Moans about moans.

justasking111 · 13/12/2021 09:45

Airbnb gets a lot of flak. We're in a tourist area. Too many people in the summer. It's ramped up since covid

SamhainToImbolc · 13/12/2021 09:45

Not on ours any more. Got sick of the moaning about stuff from the same people all the time. And the other group of oldies who've always lived in the village moaning about "blow ins". We've lived here nearly 20 years and are still not accepted Hmm

ForkedIt · 13/12/2021 09:50

If a white van happens to drive below 45mph through the village they MUST be a child and/or dognapper. Threats of vigilante justice if they dare to darken our land again.
Reg included of course.
Usually driven by a ‘man of Eastern European descent’ - because in OUR village we are all schooled in knowing someone’s nationality from a quick glance as they drive past Hmm
