Middle aged man having fun or being an arse or being taken for a ride?

He's kind of a friend of a friend/aquaintance. Longtime divorced, adult children, recently inherited substantially, leading to a significant change in lifestyle .

He's just back from a foreign holiday where he met a woman. Apparently the love of his life, they're in daily contact, making plans for the future. She's much younger, very attractive and TBH out of his league but who knows what makes people attractive?

Anyway, I was out with him and others last night. There are some slightly drunken photos of him with me and other women which he has sent to her to "make her realise what she's missing".

I told him he was a childish *&$% and not to be so unkind. Others felt it's no less than she deserves because she's probably taking him for a ride.

Or everyone's just having fun and why not?

When I say drunken photos, they're only smiley pictures in the pub. There's nothing untoward going on.

He sounds like a terrible idiot, so I can’t say that in your shoes I’d be particularly bothered whether or not he was being bled dry by Miss Holiday Romance 2021.

hotfroth · 12/12/2021 12:23

There's no fool like an old fool, as the saying goes.

Maybe they are meant to be, but the cynic in me says she's out for what she can get.

dayouttobangor · 12/12/2021 12:24

I think a gold digger too.

KittytheHare · 12/12/2021 12:25

Ugh, he sounds awful. It's his problem if he's being duped by this person.

IAAP · 12/12/2021 12:26

She’s an attractive younger woman - he’s divorced - they can both do what they like. A man of that age sending me drunken photos trying to get me jealous would be binned quickly

Eyesofdisarray · 12/12/2021 12:26

Is someone looking for sugar daddy?

Exactly She definitely has the power - but is he a multi millionaire or something? In that case, his tactics might work.
Luredbyapomegranate · 12/12/2021 12:47

He sounds like an idiot. She may or may not be digging. If he’s inherited major money I would gently point out to him that may be the attraction so take it slowly. Beyond that, leave them be.

Sn0tnose · 12/12/2021 15:02

She may or may not be a gold digger. He may or may not be using his wealth to effectively purchase a person and is now using photos of female friends to manipulate her into behaving how he wants.

I know which one I’m more disgusted by.

PearlclutchersInc · 12/12/2021 15:07

Sounds like you don't think that much of him in as much that he's only got money going for him.

Holly60 · 12/12/2021 15:10

To be honest he was being a bit silly but I’m assuming drink had been taken and people do silly things when drunk. Hopefully he feels a bit embarrassed today.

Rummikub · 12/12/2021 15:10

Which foreign country? That would make the difference I think

ALightThatNeverGoesOut · 12/12/2021 15:16

Urgh. He knows his money buys him fanny but he wants to keep her in line by threatening to invade other fanny.

And he's your friend, you say?

ALightThatNeverGoesOut · 12/12/2021 15:17

I mean, you're okay with photos of you being used like this?

Allsorts1 · 12/12/2021 15:22

He sounds much worse than her to be honest! Who cares if she is attracted to someone who is wealthy and presumably took her to nice restaurants etc - nothing wrong with that. At least she’s not sending him manipulative photos Hmm

Yourforever · 12/12/2021 15:27

She might be a golddigger but he's a youthdigger and manipulative.

ALightThatNeverGoesOut · 12/12/2021 15:27

Also v disrespectful to his friends like OP.

Completely agree, I wouldn't want to be friends with someone who used me in his little games to try and neg his 'girlfriend'.
tulips27 · 12/12/2021 15:39

Sounds like something a teenager would do, not a grown man.

Butchyrestingface · 12/12/2021 15:47

Not sure how sending the supposed love of one's life drunken photos which could be interpreted as cheating on her, will make her realise what she's missing.

But maybe I've been out of the dating pool too long.

HollowTalk · 12/12/2021 16:01

It's interesting but most women with adult children who inherited substantial amount would give some of that money to the children to put deposits on houses.

He just goes looking for a shag.

OhWhyNot · 12/12/2021 16:27

No fool like an old fool

Let me guess she now sends photo of herself in underwear and has him wrapped around her finger again

The wedding shall be soon

Good luck to her I feel no sympathy for men (and women) who apparently get taken in by good looking parents half their age

OhWhyNot · 12/12/2021 16:30

Good looking partners ….

Not parents Confused

DingADingDong · 12/12/2021 16:38

He's deluded, inheritance or not
That's a terrible way to behave, what kind of reaction was he expecting?
What a twat
