Stop Buying for Nieces and Nephews

Just out of curiosity is there an age in your family that you stop buying birthday or Christmas gifts/giving them money at? For example once they reach 21 or get a full time job?

You should stop when you no longer want to, rather than age dependent,

I don't buy for mine. Don't see them, so don't see the point. Not obligated to spend my money on them.

We stopped sending cheques when they were mid-20s as they never used to thank us for anything we gave them anyway - but that's another thread! Grin

I stopped presents at 21 but will continue to send individual birthday cards (they're included on family Christmas cards).

To be fair it's been a one way process as my sister doesn't make any effort for my DC (who are younger) but I don't hold that against my niece and nephew.

18 here. But I'm particularly close to one niece so have continued to buy for her into her 20's.

At 18 they get an engraved thing - in recent years it’s been a Leather man penknife or ID bracelet - and that’s the end of presents.

We stopped at 18. Big present for their 18th then no more. But my nieces live in Australia and the cost of postage is horrendous. One of my nieces is 15 so I am still buying for her

I did gifts up to 18 for birthdays and Christmas and then 21st birthday (bottle) - then no more. I do send cards though, as I have so little other contact with them now they're grown.

That's a good idea.
