I read that Priti Patel is going to put her name forward Shock the horror. Also Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak are contenders.

chunt

ThreeFeetTall · 12/12/2021 13:14

Gove.
Sunak will be front runner but in the final few days will have something awful leaked to the press by 'a source'
That's my guess

roarfeckingroarr · 12/12/2021 13:26

I would love Gove for PM. He's genuinely very intelligent and willing to make hard decisions,

Gove may be a savvy politician but there's the backstabbing label that won't go away and (as shallow as this sounds), not sure his face fits plus a fairly eventful personal life of late.

As a fairly die hard Tory voter, I'd say Rishi Sunak is the only credible contender. Has kept his nose clean through the various party cock ups and has the intellectual, respectable air that would be a good antidote to Boris' chaos and bullshit.

Boris has become a complete embarrassment, along with many of his ministers (particularly Hancock and Raab); the Christmas parties are the last straw. Disgraceful.

CalamariGames · 12/12/2021 13:42

I don't know if the full story ever came out about Gove's divorce but I think a brown envelope about that exists in a drawer somewhere if he annoys the wrong person

Interesting to see all the responses on here. If Murdoch is still backing Gove, then he seems to be running the country so we'll probably get Gove. Truss seems daft, for instance if you google the 'pork markets' speech.

Sunak and maybe Javid are the only ones with Charisma, or Tom Tugendhat .

Surprised a pp described Keir Starmer as sleazy. He used to be DPP and seems very straight and trustworthy, even though he's not glamorous or charismatic.

With Gove, I think the divorce might make him more popular, as many were not keen on the thought of Sarah Vine in number 10.

I think Gove would make a good PM. I'm not interested in having a charismatic or good looking leader. I'm interested in having someone who is competent to do the job. And preferably someone who has not come from a privileged background and Gove fits that bill.

Poetrypatty · 12/12/2021 13:57

Tbf I don't think we've ever had a good looking leader Grin

@Fairylights25

That is the most ridiculous claim day but you honestly think Jeremy Corbyn would have coped with a crisis of this magnitude then you are truly deluded. He is own brother is being arrested and is a very public anti vaxxer ffs. I sometimes worry people actually believe this kind of BS.
Why does his sibling have any impact on anyones ability to do their job? I went to oxbridge, my sister is a drug addict, in your world that makes me unsuitable for my profession.
CloudPop · 12/12/2021 14:35

@EnidFrighten I know I had exactly the same thought and reaction as you re Gove 😩

baroqueandblue · 12/12/2021 14:52

I'm still reeling from the loss of two of @Fairylights25's children to suicide because of their school. Surely there needs to be a public inquiry into that? I realise it must be unimaginably upsetting @Fairylights25 but were there particular members of staff involved in driving the children to take their own lives? Because presumably a criminal investigation would be necessary to deal with such dereliction of duty, pandemic or not.

girlmom21 · 12/12/2021 16:58

@Fairylights25 I am so, so sorry Thanks

longwayoff · 12/12/2021 17:14

This is the problem OP. Boris and his cohorts of yes-men ensured anyone with a conscience and ability to do the job of PM was either booted out at the beginning of their coup, or left because they were too repellent to associate with. Which they are and the next PM will be drawn from their ranks. Hideous bunch to choose from which is why Boris is so smug, nothing to choose from.

Poetrypatty · 12/12/2021 17:54

Yes that's true longwayoff there used to be people like Dominic Grieve and some other decent seeming ones.

Agree that we're about to see lots of Sunak bashing as he's probably the most popular with the public. (I know his faults but he'll be considered better than the rest of the cabinet and 1920 committee etc seem to like him)

Gove has been laying very low, almost too quiet. I think he'll definitely run for party leader

dontcallmelen · 12/12/2021 18:12

Sunak is just as much of a cunt as Boris is, he just hides it better.
Truss is another self serving arse, she was originally a remainer but changed her tune quite quickly when it suited her, plus the so called new trade deals are just roll overs of current EU deals she couldn’t negotiate her way out of a paper bag, as for Gove or Patel I really don’t want to give either headspace, the one thing Dominic Cummings was right about was the decline of British politics was the choice of either Johnson or Corbyn in the last election that’s how far we had sunk.

underneaththeash · 12/12/2021 18:15

Boris won't resign.

HollowTalk · 12/12/2021 18:31

@EnjoyingTheSilence

I agree. Rory Stewart was the only decent one. Sooner we get rid of the whole cabinet the better
I completely agree with this.Rory was so good that I couldn't believe he was in the Conservative party!
waltzingparrot · 12/12/2021 18:41

Can't be Rishi surely, because the press are saying his staff had a party as well.

normanthegonk · 12/12/2021 20:20

@Jensonfromtheblock. His name is actually Roderick stewart!
