Sleepover kids still awake.

Y5. 4 children. Two won't stop talking. I've encouraged and then told them to go to sleep. Do I just grin and put up with it and never host one again?

That’s what happens on sleepovers surely??

minipie · 12/12/2021 01:09

Are they keeping you awake? If you can sleep through it I’d just leave them to it.

If you (or others) are being kept awake I’d get pretty sharp with them tbh.

GreenPickledEgg · 12/12/2021 01:10

I don't want to fall asleep while they're awake and two want to sleep. I've been down numerous times.

The word sleepover means there will be no sleep whatsoever ever.

I rarely hosted sleepovers as I love my sleep too much…. And I’m a grumpy cow without sleep😂😂

CakesOfVersailles · 12/12/2021 01:11

It's pretty standard on a sleepover surely, just go to bed and let them get on with it? Or if possible offer the two tired ones a different room. As long as they are just talking and not going into the kitchen or being destructive I would leave them be.

DameAlyson · 12/12/2021 01:13

If two want to sleep, can you split up the two who are talking? Put them in different rooms? Failing that, get cross with them, if they've been told and won't shut up.

Redshoeblueshoe · 12/12/2021 01:14

Ha ha ha. This is what sleepovers are. They should actually be called Nosleepovers

Topseyt · 12/12/2021 01:14

Sleepovers are not really very aptly named. In many cases they have little to do with sleep

If they really are keeping you awake though then now wouldn't be an unreasonable time to go in and tell them that you have already asked nicely a few times and are now telling them to shut up.

GreenPickledEgg · 12/12/2021 01:17

I've decided this is my first and last one!

And this is why I don't host sleepovers!

Plumjamorcrumblyham · 12/12/2021 01:31

I’m pretty chilled at sleepovers but no, it’s late now and time to sleep

GreenPickledEgg · 12/12/2021 01:50

Not bloomin working.

In our family we call them ‘wakeovers’ for this very reason!
They are not great on so many levels as the kids are frazzled and completely miserable the next day too.

TisTheSeasonToBeVegan · 12/12/2021 01:57

Totally normal in my experience. Go to sleep and leave them to it.

immersivereader · 12/12/2021 02:02

Awful things. Live n learn op

DukeofEarlGrey · 12/12/2021 02:05

Aww, not sleeping is the fun of it. Go to bed and leave them to it OP.

Chikoroll · 12/12/2021 02:18

A girlfriend always puts classical music on in this situation, swears by it

Have they had their midnight feast yet OP, if not then there is your answer. In the dark ages when I was a child, only two of us were ever at a sleepover at the same time, the hosting child, and their choice of friend. The favourite bit of the whole thing was when we got to unpack our midnight feast picnic, which only had naughty things in it - and we didn't have to clean are teeth afterwards! I know mumsnetters that that will make some of you very cross, but I can only say that if you know of a way to contact my very dear Mum in the Summerlands, then please do, and moan at her about it.

I will just mention in my Mum's defence (and my friend's Mum's defence), that in total we only had about 4 sleepovers in total per year, and we did clean our teeth in the morning. Also, all my other meals were cooked from scratch from mainly healthy ingredients.

To give you an idea of the time period I am talking about, Chicken was quite a bit more expensive than beef.
