Have you ever eaten a deep fried Mars Bar?

Okay - hands up, I haven't.
But I was reading another thread and it got me thinking.
I love sweet things and am wondering if I should add this to my 2022 bucket list!
Have you tried one? If so a) did you enjoy it? b) did you eat a whole one? and c) would you recommend it for me to try?
Sorry, too many questions Blush

I’m Scottish, and live in Scotland - never had one.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 11/12/2021 22:03

I've deep fried a creme egg.
It's amazing

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/12/2021 22:04

Yes, it was horrible, didn’t finish it

OpalOwl · 11/12/2021 22:05

I'm Scottish, as a teenager I has a Satuday job in a chippie, have tried deep fried mars bars, snickers, boosts, creme eggs, caramel, picnic....oh and once attempetd jelly babies. Not entirely sure how I'm still alive.

gavisconismyfriend · 11/12/2021 22:08

They are amazing. Best accompanied by a scoop or two of cheap vanilla ice cream

ShakespearesSisters · 11/12/2021 22:13

They do them as a pudding at Aberdeen Angus steak House. I had one when we visited London. It was strange but yummy and a coronary on a plate.

eightlivesdown · 11/12/2021 22:13

No

ISpyCobraKai · 11/12/2021 22:14

No and I live on Scotland, I don't have a sweet tooth.
I love pizza crunch and Munchy boxes though.

BirdyBee · 11/12/2021 22:17

Our local chippy does them for £1 they are lovely!

OllyBJolly · 11/12/2021 22:17

Horrible! Horrible gooey sugary mess.

But @AnneLovesGilbert - deep fried pickles are the food of the gods! Had them in a bar in Virginia and thinking of going back just for the pickles!

Iamkmackered1979 · 11/12/2021 22:18

The local blue lagoon does them, but no never been tempted. Love a banana fritter though yum!

fluffyblanketfeatherpillow · 11/12/2021 22:19

Yes. It was disgusting and I made the big mistake of eating the whole thing.

Coincidentally I had a horrendous attack of cholecystitis that night.

Garman · 11/12/2021 22:21

Yes, they're delicious, has to be with vanilla ice cream.

Garman · 11/12/2021 22:22

Not in Scotland btw, in Ireland.

MotherOfMonkeys0 · 11/12/2021 22:24

I'm Scottish, lived in Scotland all my life. Never had one, never seen trace of them anywhere, never heard a local talk about eating them. Seems to be a thing that tourists come to Scotland to ask for, most bizarre!!

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 11/12/2021 22:24

No, but I've made my own deep fired Bounty a few times.

Remoanercorona · 11/12/2021 22:25

Yes it was a massive disappointment. It must have been done in the same oil as the fish as it tasted decidedly fishy.

Now a microwaved mars bar-that is a delight!

rookiemere · 11/12/2021 22:27

Tried it from a chippie when US relatives were over - not something id repeat. But then done in light tempura batter, a tiny bit as part of the dessert from a tasting menu was ok.

delilahbucket · 11/12/2021 22:31

Yes when I was 15 😂. They were quite the delicacy from the local chippy in West Yorkshire near my school. I remember it being very sweet and sickly. Don't think I could stomach one now!

BarbaraofSeville · 11/12/2021 22:36

No, despite having the opportunity due to recently spending some time in Glasgow and for practicality reasons, a lot of food I ate was from takeaways.

I wasn't particularly impressed. The people who run takeaways in Glasgow appear to have missed the memo about doing a small menu well and quality over quantity being the way to go.

I saw several takeaway menus featuring dozens of dishes that you simply wouldn't expect to find in a fish and chip shop for example. If it's not fish, it shouldn't be served battered IMHO. In a similar vein, the same place serving curry and burgers and kebabs and pizzas and fish and chips for example rarely ends well.

xyzandabc · 11/12/2021 22:39

Yes, only ever from a chippy in Dorset though. You have to eat it straight away. Once waited for someone to collect it and bring it back to our house and though it was still warm and melty, it wasn't as good as straight out the fryer.
Definitely add it to your list of things to try.

santasmuma · 11/12/2021 22:42

I wouldn't know where to get one - and I live in Scotland

Debsdonein · 11/12/2021 22:42

No. Yak. Lol.

OnlyHereForTheClothes · 11/12/2021 22:43

@santasmuma

I wouldn't know where to get one - and I live in Scotland
I love this - makes it sound like hard drugs.

I think you can just get them in the chippies. Definitely can in Edinburgh anyway.

HandlebarLadyTash · 11/12/2021 22:44

As a teen in Cleethorpes, two bites was enough. Nice but very sweet & sickly
