Something strange is happening in my bedroom and I can’t work out why!

I’m sorry, it’s not very exciting but I just don’t understand it.

I have a bedside cabinet, and about 6 weeks ago I noticed that there was some gritty rubbley type stuff on it. I wiped it away but later on there was more there. I thought I mustn’t have cleared it up properly so did it again, more thoroughly.

And basically, ever since, there’s nearly always this gritty stuff there! I can’t imagine where it’s coming from - there’s nothing above the cabinet except the ceiling and a hanging light but they don’t seem to be the source. I never hear it dropping onto the cabinet, or see it dropping, it’s just there!

Where is it coming from?!

Your son looks like someone famous when they were young but I can't place him.

@Pippapet

Woodworm living in the cabinet itself is the likeliest guess. Move the cabinet to a different room, see if it still appears.
Burn it!!!!

Can’t remember the last time I got so invested in a thread so fast 🍿

Alistair McGowan?

Love this thread - the mystery, the tree outfit, the onions, all of it!

I had something similar. It turned out (eventually) to be the double sided mirror on a stand (you know, one of those with the magnifying side for pinpointing your rogue whiskers) and the seal in the base had failed. Turns out it was hollow inside and weighted with sand, and a few grains would come out when it was moved or touched.

Riskyrice · 11/12/2021 23:31

Woodworm is usually more like very fine sawdust, whereas your mystery grit looks more like sand🕵️

Nasturs · 11/12/2021 23:31

I am here for the pics Smile

I so want to ask if your DD identifies as a Christmas tree Xmas Smile

Spider poo? WTF? I mean I know they must poo but how many spiders must there be for it to be visible?

Do you have any windows open? Vents? Is there any building work going on nearby?

Somebodylikeyew · 11/12/2021 23:36

I’ve no idea. But if i say spider poo can i stay? I need to know the answer Grin

Wendyer · 11/12/2021 23:37

There’s grit on the paper already! Look!

So it’s not from the wood of the beside cabinet

Mmm🤔

Lemonysherbet · 11/12/2021 23:39

Oh what a good thread. I have no helpful suggestions but I'm so invested right now

Wendyer · 11/12/2021 23:39

No windows open nearby, no vents, no building work, not near the coast. I’ve looked closely at the white reading lamp’s base but it seems intact as far as I can tell.

How strange. I have no suggestions- must be coming from above though.

thegrassisalwaysgreener · 11/12/2021 23:40

I'd have to set up a camera to see exactly where it's coming from!

HandsFaceClock · 11/12/2021 23:40

What are the spider owners going to do about the hundreds of baby spiders that hatch?

LuluBlakey1 · 11/12/2021 23:40

Dandruff? Grin

@HandsFaceClock

It happened last year- they used to walk round the wall and window sill then just disappeared. Only about 20 of them though. Tiny little things. They liked the edge of the ceramic sink for some reason.
