I've just realised that I don't actually like most of the people I'm going out with tonight

I was invited by someone I do like and didn't ask who else would be there.

Of 8 of us going there are two others I really like, but the rest I find either annoying (obnoxious men with strong opinions) or downright nasty (gossipy and spiteful).

Am I going to enjoy it with those I do like or spend the evening seething and biting my tounge not so easy once I've had a drink

Help me get in the right mindset?

What sort of night out is it? Dinner in a restaurant - you'll have to bite your tongue even if you sit with the people you like and not next to the ones you don't, or bar/club - you can probably physically distance yourself from the annoying ones and maybe even leave early if they still piss you off!

It’s a night out - sounds like it’s bound to be better than you expect.

Some of my best nights out have been when I expected the worst

Agree with pp - try to keep your distance from the annoying people and make it an early one if you find yourself getting irritated.
