Something else I did which I thought was a good idea

Was to remove all or most of my precious ornaments from the house when my daughter had a baby because I knew they would probably get smashed, with the idea that when they move out I could get them all down from the loft and put them back........

I saw them the other day when I got the Christmas decorations down and realised just how awful they all are and what was I thinking?

Ornaments seem quite an outdated idea

I have no ornaments. Bonus is you don’t have to dust them. Buy house plants, you never tire of a good plant.

We have mils, fil downsized after she passed and gave us a bunch of figurines. We put them away, we don't want them, but mil loved them so much we can't not keep them. Not yet anyways.

When we moved abroad all my ornaments went ahead and were put into storage.
There was a delay of a couple's of months in getting them back (Covid) , and when O did get them I felt the same as you op.
Instead of ornaments we now have loads of family pictures .

Depends on the ornament: £69.99 + P&P paid by postal order to the Express for a china Princess Di with gold edging – straight to the charity shop, what were you thinking.

But if you just mean “ornamental things” – what I call objets purely to wind up DP – such as beautiful ceramics, vases, bowls, pots for plants, I’m in the more (to dust) the merrier crowd. Fucking love a tchotchke.

The ones we have are Royal Doulton ladies in swirling dresses.
