Do women actually lose their children to abusive husbands?

Have read quite a few threads in my time on mumsnet, but the ones that stick out for me are the ones where women have lost their kids to their abusers.
How is this possible?
Is there a huge back story or do the court genuinely believe its better for a child to live with an abusive parent?

After spending along time living in refuge (1yr +) it really does happen. If the woman will not commit to leaving an abusive relationship then they will take the children away. It’s really really sad but something that happens an awful lot. It’s often more complicated than that often with a history of alcohol or drug abuse but SS have a duty of care to protect the emotional and physical well being of the child. I’ve seen it with my own eyes and it is really is so upsetting.

What I mean is via the family court.. I've read quite a few threads where judges have placed the children with the fathers full time.. I just don't understand how it can happen.

I’ve not seen women lose their children to abusive partners, but I’ve seen many lose them to social care due to not protecting them/leaving abusive partners.

Abused women are dammed if the do or don't.

Yeah there absolutely needs to be more support for vulnerable women and children. I was very fortunate in the face my kids dad did a runner and never requested access but it’s often granted even when the abuse has been proven it blows my mind how the courts allow this to happen.

Read up on so-called 'parental alienation'. It's terrifying, and being used by abusive fathers with expensive lawyers to keep children from their mothers.

Family courts are not friendly to women. They are classed as having mental health issues if they dont keep their mouth closed.

This doesn't just happen with men.

A relative of mine was assaulted by her MIL, the Mil took them to court for access to the child - and got it.
