Following on from the other thread about current national treasures, who do you are the national treasures of the future? I want to nominate Brian Cox and Harry Styles.

Michaela Coel!

Branleuse · 10/12/2021 17:37

arent those two already national treasures?

Madweary · 10/12/2021 17:38

I think so, but don't you need a bit of age behind you to really be a national treasure?Grin

Greg James

Madweary · 10/12/2021 17:39

Why would Harry Styles be a national treasure? What has he done that isn't about him?

LuluBlakey1 · 10/12/2021 17:40

Chris Packham

He's got GREAT hair.
HedyPrism · 10/12/2021 17:42

I was going to say Greg James too. He's our generation's Terry Wogan.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 10/12/2021 17:42

Marcus Rashford. He's done enough already but I think there'll be more to come.

Madweary · 10/12/2021 17:45

Harry styles has got great hair and cheeky glint in his eye, but I am really like they way he talks about women (with respect). He solo music is good too

OP posts:
SaltedCaramelHC · 10/12/2021 17:47

JK Rowling

Madweary · 10/12/2021 17:48

Yes Marcus Rashford, the newer crop of football players seem to want to achieve more with their fame but Marcus Rashford really showed what you can do for good with your fame. Lewis Hamilton too?

I love Harry Styles! I loved him in One Direction when he was all young and bouncy, then I thought he was becoming a bit of an arse, but he has grown on me again.

Mostly, I love that he just wears what the fuck he wants and doesn't claim that that makes him 'queer' or 'a woman' or any of that crap.

gildalily · 10/12/2021 17:48

Marcus Rashford

TrufflesAndToast · 10/12/2021 17:49

Rylan.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 10/12/2021 17:49

Christ no, not Hamilton, he is a knob!

Agree that Greg James will be around for a long time now Smile

He seems lovely now but I’m not sure how respectful his comment to Matt Cardle was when he won X factor. 😬

HollyHocks13 · 10/12/2021 17:50

Olivia Coleman
David Tennant

Well on their way to being national treasures already!

True I forgot about that.

Katie Piper. She is an unstoppable inspiration.

According to Unesco, a 'living or national treasure' is 'a person who possesses to a high degree the knowledge and skills required for performing or re-creating specific elements of the intangible cultural heritage'. `
Wordy but it applies to the people I consider national treasures (alive or when they were alive).
They need to be pretty much thought well of by all areas of society, be slightly eccentric, funny, really care about an aspect of the country in some way, kind of represent an aspect of the country almost uniquely, be talented, can be contentious but we accept it

Victoria Wood
The Queen
Sir David Attenborough
Alan Bennett
Terry Wogan
Dames Maggie Smith, Judy Dench and Helen Mirren
Sir Michael Caine
Tim Spall
Alan Rickman
JK Rowling
Colin Firth
Jo Brand?
Tony Benn
Dennis Skinner
Captain Sir Tom Moore
George Michael

I can see people who could become one:
Chris Packham
Prince Charles
Camilla
Ant and Dec
Simon Cowell
Gordon Brown will become one I think
Paul McCartney
Keith Richards
Olivia Coleman
Helena Bonham Carter
Graham Norton
Adrian Chiles

There are others vying to be one but I'm not sure:
Joanna Lumley
Dawn French
Piers Morgan
Joan Collins
Sir Lenny Henry had potential but not convinced now

TisTheSeasonToBeVegan · 10/12/2021 18:30

Piers Morgan...vile little shit.

MotherWol · 10/12/2021 18:39

Nadiya Hussain, she's just so cheerful and warm and genuine and I love the way her enthusiasm shines through. Andy Day (CBeebies) as well - he's a great presenter and has that right mix of daftness and accessibility that kids really respond to.

Never heard of Michaela Co!e
