We made a big fuss of DS when he was 18. Is 21st also a "Big birthday"?

Yes 🎉🎉🎉
Dd had a party for her 21st.

21st has always been the big birthday. Keys to the house and all that jazz traditionally.

Crabwoman · 10/12/2021 14:05

Yes, the 21st birthday is considered the big one!

amusedbush · 10/12/2021 14:26

Definitely! 18, 21, 30 and each decade after.

We've done both 18 & 21 for dds

Yes

I’m glad someone else asked.
Me and DH were speaking about this recently. DDs 18th was marked with a big do, we weren’t sure about how important 21 was

I think most families would either make a 'thing' of 18th or 21st.

I think these days it tends to be more 18th, but of course a lot of our current 19 yr olds didn't get the chance to do anything for their 18ths, so I suspect there will be a lot more 21sts in the next couple of years.

Plus, very few halls will take a booking for an 18th anymore, so that also pushes people more to having a party for 21st.
