Which of the following do you think is nicest to receive in miniature as a secret santa gift:

Burleighs Pink Gin
Chase oak aged sloe gin
Whitley Neill Rhubarb and Ginger
Edinburgh Gin - Orange and mandarin

Any thoughts? If a different flavour of any of the above is nicer please let me know that too!

This is for a lady with refined taste and who likes gin!

Oh!! I'll have the Chase Sloe gin please! 😉

AltitudeCheck · 10/12/2021 09:55

Pink gin if you must but unless you know she drinks flavoured gin /gin liqueurs I would chose a plain 'real' gin over a novelty one.

Gregsprinkles · 10/12/2021 09:57

Personally I would choose a nice real gin, like pp said.

Rhubarb and Ginger for me :)

Orange and Mandarin for me

BorisKilledMyHusband · 10/12/2021 10:00

Pink gin. Or non flavoured

BorisKilledMyHusband · 10/12/2021 10:00

Definitely not sloe gin. It’s a very different drink.

TokyoSushi · 10/12/2021 10:01

Rhubarb & ginger is my favourite!

TeaMeBasil · 10/12/2021 10:02

Ah another vote for a non-flavoured proper gin if you can. I love a nice gin but really can't stand any of the flavoured ones.

tetrisgal · 10/12/2021 10:02

Out of those I would go for pink, but like PPs have said, plain is even better.

Do not be tempted by Whitley Neill blackberry. It was so soapy and synthetic, my husband ended up using it as a solvent for his DIY stuff! Grin

AffIt · 10/12/2021 10:03

I love gin, but to be honest, I can't abide flavoured stuff and would far prefer a decent London gin.

However, if those you've listed above are the only choices, then I would probably go for the Edinburgh gin. Any Whitley Neill stuff tends to be horribly sweet and tastes more like syrup than gin to me.

ifeelabitsad · 10/12/2021 10:04

Definitely go for proper gin not flavoured.

Agreed. Lots of people aren't keen on the sweeter, flavoured gins. A good quality plain gin that could go in a G&T would be a safer bet.
Livinthedream1 · 10/12/2021 10:05

Rhubarb and ginger but not Whitley Neil I’d rather the Edinburgh Rhubarb and ginger 🥰

SiobhanSharpe · 10/12/2021 10:09

Yup, @AltitudeCheck is right, IMO.
Sloe gin is very sweet and is more of an after-dinner liqueur, for me. Even some 'pink' gins have raspberry (or similar) juice added. Traditional pink gin is neat gin over ice with just a dash of Angostura bitters added when it's being served.
Why not go for a premium unflavoured gin like Tanqueray No.Ten, Beefeater or Plymouth?

mewkins · 10/12/2021 10:26

Weirdly I love blackberry gin! It is a weird taste though.

I agree go for a plain one.

Sparklepants53 · 10/12/2021 10:26

Oooh thanks! I’m not a gin drinker so good to have your advice!
I think she likes interesting gins because I know she’s been gin tasting- but syrupy definitely doesn’t sound good.

I’ll have a look for some of the unflavoured options - any more recommendations for which of these are nice?

Depending on the budget, my gin loving DP really likes Nordes. It's a Spanish gin & I bought it from Amazon (other retailers, I'm sure, are available).

I'm not really a gin drinker, but even I liked this. It's light & refreshing, & very easy on the juniper, which I why I quite liked it.

Sparklepants53 · 10/12/2021 10:52

I’ve been back to look at unflavoured gins:
Burleighs
Sipsmith
Edinburgh Classic
Beefeater

Which of these do you think would be best??

AltitudeCheck · 10/12/2021 11:02

If you wanted to make the extra effort then perhaps;
glaswegin.com/collections/shop?sort_by=price-ascending
www.justminiatures.co.uk/products/williams-chase-elegant-48-gin-miniature-5cl

But if that's too much effort/time /money for a secret Santa than I'd stick with a classic like Tanqueray

Sparklepants53 · 10/12/2021 11:11

Oh thanks! It’s just a £5 secret santa, hence looking for a miniature (which I will pair with nice chocs) Smile

OP posts:
longtompot · 10/12/2021 11:27

The Burleighs signature gin sounds really nice and as a gin lover, something they might appreciate

TeaMeBasil · 10/12/2021 11:38

A mini Hendricks is good, usually see them in the supermarkets and the bottle is nice Smile

Gribbie · 10/12/2021 12:28

Sipsmiths is lovely, Hendricks too.
