30th birthday gift for corporate lawyer

Any ideas? Preferably under £100.

I’d like to buy a gift for him to keep rather than vouchers or food/drink.

He’s DP’s son and quite into fancy stuff

Corporate lawyer isn't exactly a personality description. Or is it?

More info on interests would be useful...

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 00:11

Well, it kind of is. I chose that description particularly

This is more telling than your first post Grin

Something golf related maybe?
Or cufflinks - preferably antique.

Low-maintenance houseplant

ohreallynotreally · 10/12/2021 00:16

So regardless of his job title….what are his interests? Does his job make any difference to him as a human being?

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 00:16

😃

I did wonder about cufflinks.

Or some good quality, known brand leather stationery- like Smythson, or Apsinalls.

Or something from Paul Smith.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 10/12/2021 00:26

Cuff links, nice pen, possibly briefcase or watch, but they’ll probably be out of budget. If he drinks and is in to golf/ “country pursuits” an engraved hip flask

Aquafizzle · 10/12/2021 00:36

LOL at the ''Corporate Lawyer' description.... come on, does he not have a better definition as a friend to you??
A school friend, University, flat mate, travel companion etc?

BobbieT1999 · 10/12/2021 00:43

@Aquafizzle he's the ops DPs son, she probably doesn't know that intimately.

Op I just thought, why aren't you giving him a joint gift with dp??

TheTeenageYears · 10/12/2021 00:47

Leather notebook - Smythson, Moleskin or Mont Blanc

Mediumred · 10/12/2021 00:58

What does your partner suggest? How about a DNA test from Ancestry.com? I’ve got this for my kid (er, young teen, def not a corporate lawyer) after she expressed an interest, will prob show boring white British but my DP (her dad) is slightly more exotic, might be interesting.

Onehotmess · 10/12/2021 01:01

DNA test made me laugh! I thought you meant to see if DP was real dad 😂😂🙈🙈 I get you now. Ancestry thing- great idea!

AgnesNaismith · 10/12/2021 01:11

A corporate lawyer with interests…..funny!!!

Nice bottle of something, montblanc pen, Moleskine noptepad, aspinal card carrier, cashmere scarf.

Cameleongirl · 10/12/2021 01:19

Being a lawyer isn't a personality trait, ask his Dad what his son's interests are!

SleightOfMind · 10/12/2021 01:22

DH is a lawyer who works for a big US firm.
When we were young and working all the hours, my aunt got us both a sock subscription. Sounds mad but it was such a lovely, comforting and useful treat each month.

Failing that, a subscription to Private Eye?

blueshoes · 10/12/2021 01:29

A fancy camera to look amazing on zoom calls. A nice backpack to lug his laptop to and from work from home and in the office. A humongous second screen to work from home that blows the competition out of the water.

Mosaic123 · 10/12/2021 01:31

Elvis and Kresse wallet or bag?

JustLikea · 10/12/2021 01:31

A Montblanc pen

Avarua · 10/12/2021 01:31

Whiskey tasting experience?
I like the zoom camera idea too.

blueshoes · 10/12/2021 01:31

Sleight of mind gave me a thought.

Ask him if his law firm has an online subscription to the FT. Some firms don't have a corporate subscription because it is quite pricey. He will need to read it if he is a corporate lawyer. I would love a subscription to the FT.

WouldBeGood · 10/12/2021 08:15

Thank you for all the ideas, lots of good stuff that I wouldn’t have thought of.

I really like the Elvis and Kresse things, thanks @Mosaic123. Good mixture of quirky and luxe.

I know it’s weird I don’t buy with DP- that would be a whole other thread 😃

I am not a hot shot lawyer, but I would love a sock subscription. My feet are always cold!

Magicmonster · 11/12/2021 07:59

I’m a 30 something lawyer at an international firm. perhaps it’s because I’m not a corporate lawyer :-) but few of these options sound like anything my colleagues would like. They sound like options out of the 1980s or earlier. :-) I can’t imagine many 30 year old corporate lawyers these days carrying around briefcases or fancy stationary. I think you do need a bit more info about what he is into. If he’s into good food/wine perhaps a voucher for a nice restaurant or some special wine? If he’s into his looks, maybe something like a belt or scarf? Or the men in my team seem to be really into their posh hand cream! Or if he is in the 1 percent of young male lawyers I’ve met who would genuinely appreciate a nice pen/notebook then get that. Cufflinks could be a good idea if you definitely want something he can keep. Or you could get a subscription to something he is into, eg you can get monthly cheese - or as someone else said sock - subscription?
