Do you think previous Prime Ministers would've had No. 10 parties during Covid?

Bouledeneige · 09/12/2021 22:22

If they were PM?

I'm thinking:
Theresa May - No
Cameron - Yes or maybe a supper for friends
Brown - No
Blair - Maybe
Major - No
Thatcher - No

What do you think?

Yes for Blair but otherwise I agree with your assessment!

SilverGlassHare · 09/12/2021 22:23

I’m not keen on Corbyn (I know he hasn’t been PM!) but I absolutely can’t see him doing it.

Weepingwillows12 · 09/12/2021 22:24

I think you are right. Blair maybe but I would hope not

Amboseli · 09/12/2021 22:24

Agree with your assessment.

RancidOldHag · 09/12/2021 22:27

May, Maggie, Major and Brown - no

Cameron - probably not

Blair - yes

Callaghan -maybe

Wilson - probably

Heath - probably not, but perhaps a small musical soirée with precautions

AnotherMansCause · 09/12/2021 22:28

I also agree with the OP. Most of them would have stuck to the rules, either out of a fear of being caught or because it's the right thing to do. Or both. Bozo etc don't care.

@SilverGlassHare

Yet Corbyn was pictured at a dinner party during one of the lockdowns so I suspect he might have!
JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 09/12/2021 22:29

Gordon Brown wouldn't go to a party.

Kummerspeck · 09/12/2021 22:34

I'm cynical and think most of them might have but whether the media would have told us about it is another matter

rrhuth · 09/12/2021 22:41

I don't think any of them would, because they all would have listened to proper advisors. Neither would Corbyn, Kinnock, Starmer, Hague. I can't decide about IDS...

Johnson is a totally different type of politician.

rrhuth · 09/12/2021 22:42

@JackieCollinshasnoauthority

Gordon Brown wouldn't go to a party.
I miss him. He'd have been good at handling covid I think.

He already broke the rules in 2020 and had to apologise for it. Actually, I think the only one from OPs list who wouldn’t have, was Thatcher. I like Rancids addition of Callaghan, Wilson and Heath though, and agree with the verdict Grin
LadyCatStark · 09/12/2021 22:45

@rrhuth me too, I think he is the PM that we need during all of this.

SushiGo · 09/12/2021 22:45

Generally agree, but Cameron definitely would.

Brown immediately jumped to mind as definitely wouldn't. I don't think he was the party type in normal times!

SkippettyDoDah · 09/12/2021 22:48

I don't see Blair doing it, he desperately cared about public opinion. Cameron is the only one with the arrogance I think but he didn't have the hefty majority.

rrhuth · 09/12/2021 22:48
@rrhuth me too, I think he is the PM that we need during all of this.
Did you hear when he was asked about his second job earnings and he said he donated it all to charity? He was just alright.

HighlandCowbag · 09/12/2021 22:48

I don't think May would have tbh, she seemed a bit of an anti social bugger and would have used the rona to get out of social obligations.

Blair definitely would. Whats an illegal party compared to an illegal war? Cameron would have as well, then ran away afterwards.

GertrudeBElion · 09/12/2021 22:49

No.

Not through any particular moral stance, but through a need not to be seen to be breaking the rules.

This lot just literally do not care.

Agreed.
VaulterTech · 09/12/2021 22:50

I don’t think any of them would. I think Blair would have been too aware of perception. (Pretty obvious really!)

I'm thinking the same. They're all as bad as each other and anyone who thinks otherwise is niave.
PhilCornwall1 · 09/12/2021 22:51

Cameron is a yes.
Blair is a yes.

LuluBlakey1 · 09/12/2021 22:54

None except Cameron- who is cut from the same stuff as Boris.
Blair was too media savvy even if he'd wanted to.

Vanuatu · 09/12/2021 22:56

Brown and May no. Can't see either of them at a party irrespective of Covid.

Cameron yes, as long as it was a hog roast Grin

LuluBlakey1 · 09/12/2021 22:59

The one who absolutely would not is Gordon Brown. He is the only one who has shown any moral integrity and humanity.

May does not look as bad because of how appalling Johnson is but she is very right wing.

Blair could not care less how rich people get as long as everyone is better off.

Thatcher was awful. She lived in the 1950s.

Cameron is Johnson but worse- he was calamitous and destructive.

Major was weak morally in all kinds of ways - shagging Edwina Curry for 4 years would be one.
