Calling all parent taxi-services! What do you do in the hour you are waiting outside a club?

It's my first venture into the world of taxiingGrin as up until now clubs have either been at school or a 5 minute walk from home.
I'd planned to go to the cafe at Sainsbury's but it shuts early.
I could do the food shop but I'd quite like to do something not so useful or boringSmile. There's nowhere around to go for a walk either.

What do you do? Read a book? Do the finances? Knit?

Food shop.
Then it frees up the time you would do the food shop for something else.

Findahouse21 · 08/12/2021 19:34

Online food shopping\meal planning for the week.

PanettoneSeason · 08/12/2021 19:35

Yup, also thought you meant nightclub 🤣 had visions of Mum pulled up half on the pavement outside the club in the car at 2am patiently waiting 🤣

Theblacksheepandme · 08/12/2021 19:35

Snugglybuggly
Your lucky you live close enough to your kids clubs that that they don't require you to wait outside for an hour.

We live in the countryside so most clubs could be up to 30 minutes drive away. It's not worth going home as we would be just home and have to go again for pick up. We think it's important to do afterschool activities, especially sports to keep fit. It's part of being a parent and we wouldn't dream of not bothering to bring her.

Download a tv show, go for a walk, read a book.

Nevertime · 08/12/2021 19:37

I was going to say blow that, if they're fortunate enough to have me going to collect them they can stumble out on time or find their own way home Grin

When they were younger I used to take "jobs" to do or read. Things like online shopping or writing Christmas cards clearing emails.

stalkersaga · 08/12/2021 19:39

I also thought this was going to be about a nightclub, and my answer was "drive home and tell the teenager to cop themselves on" Grin

nomoneytree · 08/12/2021 19:40

Ahhh op, you just took me back about a billion years to when my lovely mum did used to wait for me outside a nightclub. ❤️

In answer to your question, that's drive through coffee and iPhone time! Lots of my friends use it to go for a run though.

Sunnysal · 08/12/2021 19:41

Years ago ds trained 90mins away 3 times a week!
I knitted, shopped, read and walked the dog. Made for long days!

Missushbb · 08/12/2021 19:41

i love this time. i usually go a walk, go visit my mum, or sit in the car and read.

Novasmummy · 08/12/2021 19:42

I do the top up shop

Wokahontas · 08/12/2021 19:45

I have a bag of admin I chuck in the car and take that. Sometimes I take my laptop and use my phone wifi/data to log in and get stuff done.

Wokahontas · 08/12/2021 19:46

When the weather is better and days longer I sometimes go for a run and get back 5 mins before the end of the club or take the dog for a walk.

messydoodah1 · 08/12/2021 19:47

Bullet journal, plan a holiday, have a nap, drink coffee, watch something on my phone, swap the kids books out at the library depending on the time, write my grocery list, meal plan, order groceries online, daydream. Enjoy silence.

Chakraleaf · 08/12/2021 19:48

@Row1n

I bring a hot water bottle, a hot drink in a thermos flask/keep cup type thing, and either a book or I just scroll through mumsnet and do some online browsing. It actually goes by really fast, and I have 2 hour sessions back to back in the same location with different dc so am always accompanied by whichever one isnt in class so we chat a bit too
Yep this. Twice a week x
HaggisTheGreat · 08/12/2021 19:50

I go for a walk with a podcast. There isn’t anywhere “to go for a walk” as such - it’s just suburban residential streets but I do random loops, enjoy the podcast or audio book and the exercise. Sometimes grab something from a corner shop.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 08/12/2021 19:52

luckily I taxi to a venue 5 minutes from a decent coffeeshop, so it's a flat white and a good stretch of time with my kindle. I was horrified the other day when DH's plans changed and he offered to taxi instead - i rather like my waiting hour.

gogohm · 08/12/2021 19:53

Crosswords, magazine, book, radio ... jo whiley's parent taxi service segment in particular!

gogohm · 08/12/2021 19:55

Best buy of them now being grown up, apart from university drops offs

mysterybag · 08/12/2021 19:56

I live two min away from brownies and host the a bunch of the other mums for a gin /wine hour and a gossip. Best hour of the week

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/12/2021 19:59

I should add to mine that it is only 1 activity a week I have to wait for. All others are kick child over the road to the village hall, me there as a leader, lift share or child does sport while dh does sport nearby. I'm not sure I could be arsed with waiting multiple times a week!

BogRollBOGOF · 08/12/2021 20:03

Volunteer, it was less bother than traipsing home!

SandandSplashes · 08/12/2021 20:05

I take the dog and go for a walk, or go to a nearby coffee shop, or take a flask and my kindle.

SW1amp · 08/12/2021 20:05

@rightsideoftheroad

I thought you meant nightclub too. Was going to suggest going in and asking the DJ to announce on the mic that their mums here to pick them up Grin
Grin Grin Grin
Yika · 08/12/2021 20:06

I catch up on phone calls, go for a walk, or read the news or sometimes a book.

Thepowerofthelook · 08/12/2021 20:11

I have this every Monday between dropping one off at scouts and picking the other from their activity. Unfortunately it's a small market town so apart from asda there's nothing else open and our village is slightly to far to go home between. I either do food shop, answer my emails or read (often take my thermos cup and have a cup of tea with no distractions). In the summer I may have a little wander through the woods.
