Calling all parent taxi-services! What do you do in the hour you are waiting outside a club?

CatNamedEaster · 08/12/2021 18:47

It's my first venture into the world of taxiingGrin as up until now clubs have either been at school or a 5 minute walk from home.
I'd planned to go to the cafe at Sainsbury's but it shuts early.
I could do the food shop but I'd quite like to do something not so useful or boringSmile. There's nowhere around to go for a walk either.

What do you do? Read a book? Do the finances? Knit?

I thought you meant a nightclub.

Snugglybuggly · 08/12/2021 18:49

Share lifts? I wouldn't wait an hour outside a club

RonniePickering · 08/12/2021 18:50

@DobbyTheHouseElk

I thought you meant a nightclub.
Me too. My inner 18 year old was cringing at the thought of my mum waiting outside for me for an hour 😂
rightsideoftheroad · 08/12/2021 18:50

I thought you meant nightclub too. Was going to suggest going in and asking the DJ to announce on the mic that their mums here to pick them up Grin

blackteaplease · 08/12/2021 18:51

I usually do the food shop and then either go for a walk round the town or read the Internet. It's easier when it's light in the evenings, hanging around bin the winter is cold.

Jokat · 08/12/2021 18:51

I share lifts with a friend and when it's my turn, I read a book. I love it. I never get almost an hour to myself to read any other time, unless we are on holiday perhaps.

Row1n · 08/12/2021 18:52

I bring a hot water bottle, a hot drink in a thermos flask/keep cup type thing, and either a book or I just scroll through mumsnet and do some online browsing. It actually goes by really fast, and I have 2 hour sessions back to back in the same location with different dc so am always accompanied by whichever one isnt in class so we chat a bit too

MrsWooster · 08/12/2021 18:52

Read a book on kindle waste time on mn or do my Duolingo. I treat it as a bit of peace and quiet.
Also recommend a hot water bottle and blanket.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 08/12/2021 18:52

Depends on the weather and amount of daylight.

In the winter when you can't really see, take a thermos/travel cup of hot chocolate, a blanket and download a programme to watch or a book to read on kindle.

In the summer in nice weather go for a walk, generally Dds clubs have been walking distance to the beach or take a box of marking. Fill my travel cup with ice and my favourite cold drink.

In the lighter evenings but horrible weather, drink, downloaded TV show and some crochet or marking.

I know other parents that have used the time to go for a run or take kettle bells and yoga mats and do it on grass near the carpark.

TrivialSoul · 08/12/2021 18:53

If it's an activity then I wait inside and watch dc learning. If it's more like brownies/scouts then I would find somewhere to walk nearby or take a book and a coffee with me.

thanksamillion · 08/12/2021 18:54

Sometimes I go for a run, sometimes catch up on emails (work or otherwise), phone my parents to catch up, read, do the food shopping, sleep.
I have three children who do a lot of clubs!

Vuvuvuzela · 08/12/2021 18:54

Crochet while listening to a podcast

CMOTDibbler · 08/12/2021 18:56

Ds has Tuesday night training 5.15 - 6.45 (7.15 when its light till then). At the moment I go and do the food shopping, then sit in the car and study. I'm planning on going swimming from after christmas, but it will be a bit of a rush job. When it is light, I run or walk and listen to my audio book which is fab but not possible atm.

Blankscreen · 08/12/2021 18:56

I like to have a snooze.

Put the radio on,set the alarm and lie back - absolute bliss

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 08/12/2021 18:58

I used to go for a coffee with the other Mums. But this was a dance class for 4-6yos, they all went to the village school so we knew each other.

ichundich · 08/12/2021 18:59

Go for a walk / run, shop, read a book or in my phone, go for a coffee.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2021 19:07

I always shared taxiing with other parents. That way I was never stuck.

I have five kids. They were often in different activities on a given night. Trying to be two/ three/ four places at once would have been impossible.

Clymene · 08/12/2021 19:13

I used to do my food shop.

MrsPear · 08/12/2021 19:14

Well I don’t even drive Grin so it takes us around 25 minutes to walk to traning which is fine but no point walking home again and then walking back when training is an hour and half. Thankfully it’s a busy big public park so headphones and a audiobook and a nice long walk round. Plenty of layers / waterproofs if necessary and hot tea. This Saturday just gone I sat in a sunny spot and chatted to my mum for a bit. If it’s a match then I will stand and watch and cheer loudly! Btw I have one that is 12 and one that is 9 - the 9 year old is the reason I have to walk. If they were 12 and 15 then they could walk themselves to training.

Nearlytheretrees · 08/12/2021 19:16

Food shop, go for a walk, take a flask and browse my phone. Currently sat in my car waiting for ds football to finish

pumpkinposey · 08/12/2021 19:18

Depending on club/location either walk the dog, tesco click and collect or drive thru Starbucks and some life admin (phone calls/emails that can be done in the car).

I usually go to my mums for a coffee when DD is at dancing near hers.

JassyRadlett · 08/12/2021 19:20

Hot chocolate in a travel mug, Duolingo French and German to keep me company.

My French is coming back nicely, my German is still at the stage of ‘the bear is clever, the owl is nice.’

Flask of tea, Kindle.
OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/12/2021 19:27

Read usually, either fiction or work/study related. Today I downed a bar of chocolate while reading and making notes on a book for an assignment.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 08/12/2021 19:31

I drop dd at her club, whizz to the retail park 5mins drive away and do some Christmas shopping. I get 45mins then back in the car. Sometimes the M&S there has started its yellow stickers so I pick me and dh some dinner up. But otherwise just a rummage round one of the shops, pick up christmas gifts if I see anything I like, then back to the club.

The annoying thing is theres a Costa opposite, which I would happily frequent, but its closed before her club starts
