Any pharmacists about? Can I grind prednisone into a drink for a child?

DD has been prescribed prednisone for 3 days for cough that is aggravating her asthma. She is autistic and any medicine is a mission. She needs to take 4 tablets which is proving tricky (they need to be taken together).

Can I grind them and put them in a drink? Or a spoon of yoghurt or something? Google gives mixed results

Hi I’m a serial lurker but logged in to say this is how I have always given my son prednisone. I mix them with whatever drink he wants. They work wonders so I don’t even care if it’s a fizzy unhealthy drink x

They are meant to be dissolved in liquid anyway so just pop them in her fave drink

The children's nurse dissolved them in about 5-10ml of water for DS when he was 2, it tastes very disgusting.

The normal tablets dissolve very well, you don’t need the soluble ones

Mix with some undiluted cordial and get them to knock it back like a shot!

It is incredibly bitter so we always dissolve it in the smallest possible volume (definitely no more than 5ml, preferably far less), we are very honest about it tasting dreadful, use a calpol style syringe to deliver it then have a large glass of their favourite flavoured drink ready to be downed to remove the horrible taste. Completely worth it though, it's a wonder drug!
