Bloody sick of being cold working from home

I can't afford to have the heating on all day so its not set to come on till 3pm. I'm just sick of being cold working from home. I never chose to work from home and my (small) employer has chosen to never really return to the office. I'm freezing! (And no, I am not saving on commuting)

You need a heated throw.

SilverHairedCat · 06/12/2021 14:33

I have an Oodie. I wear a soft tracksuit most days, and have blankets round me and over my legs and feet. I also drink a LOT of tea!

Cattipuss · 06/12/2021 14:34

Yeah it's blommin freezing but I don't bother having the heating on when DS isn't here. Currently several easy to remove layers so easy to take off for video calls, also have a duvet I can pop over my chair.

Bettybantz · 06/12/2021 14:34

I have a plug in heater and just heat the room I’m working in

fakereview · 06/12/2021 14:35

Yes I just heat the room I am in as well.

Or find a new job where you can go into an office? Or rent a desk at a co-working space?

DukeofEarlGrey · 06/12/2021 14:35

I have a heated throw from Lakeland and have it over my legs all day. That and Ugg boots / thermal vests that are thin enough to wear under a blouse when needed.

ThreeWiseBuddhas · 06/12/2021 14:38

My DD has a heated gilet and a heated jacket, they charge viacthe usb.
She said they're the best thing she's ever purchased in a long time

bloodycoldagain · 06/12/2021 14:44

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them. I do wear warm clothes, currently have a thick jumper with a thick outdoor rangers fleece a friend gave me over the top, and thick slippers, but my feet are still really cold.

I was thinking of treating myself to a thick blanket for Christmas!

A fleece lined hoodie really helps I find.

TheresaReynoldsOnLakeLorette · 06/12/2021 14:45

I've got myself a nice thick fleece from M&S!

Whataday21 · 06/12/2021 14:46

Oil filled plug in radiators are the cheapest I believe, and are what we use.

ILoveMyMonkey · 06/12/2021 14:52

What about sitting in a winter tog sleeping bag rather than just blankets - no gaps for the air to get into and then couple it with some of the above layering suggestions.

pastabest · 06/12/2021 14:52

Hot water bottle sat under your feet.

A thermal top under your usual layers (loads in the supermarkets at the moment) fleece throw over your knees (you can also pick up decent ones for less than a tenner in most supermarkets) and another hot water bottle on your knees if you like being really warm.

Fill up /top up the hot water bottles when you boil the kettle for a cuppa.

This is what I do and you will be toasty.

ohlookitstwins · 06/12/2021 14:54

Why don't you just put it on for an hour mid morning to take the chill out of the air?
I do this most days then usually it goes on around 4pm for when the dc come home

Obsidiansphere · 06/12/2021 14:55

Heated blanket, hot water bottles, heat wheat bags

Pro tip!
thevassal · 06/12/2021 14:59

Do you not put the heating on at all until 3pm? Because it's much colder at 8am than it is at 3..id personally put it on at 8 kust for half an hour to take the overnighr chill off the house, even if that means you don't turn it on until 3.30/4pm to compromise.
If you can't afford a heated throw get an electric blanket as they are usually cheaper and do the same thing, just don't look as nice!

IntermittentParps · 06/12/2021 15:00

Have you asked your employer about a heating allowance/paying you back if you use a workspace/buy a heater?

I think I will try that - I have an old sleeping bag from my youth somewhere. I can chuck a hot water bottle in it! And wear a hat or hoodie too.

Thanks everyone!
I still miss the office, and y'know, human contact and conversation, but at least I maybe won't be cold as well!

I second an electric, oil filled radiator. I only heat the room I am working in during the day and I am toasty! Mine is on wheels and I sit right next to it Smile

My heated throw has changed my wfh experience in the winter. It's amazing.

Mablefly · 06/12/2021 15:03

You can also claim tax relief for working from home. Gov.uk has info if you need to use this to contribute towards extra costs. Stay snug Smile

I don't think I could get a heating allowance or anything. We all got an under inflation pay increase this year too.

@bloodycoldagain I think I will try that good luck, being cold sucks!
