Fleecy dressing gowns, help which size!

Help. I'm buying someone a fleecy dressing gown for Christmas. I know they are a 14-16 and of course medium is 12/14 and large is 16/18. So would you go medium, because they're usually a bit on the big size anyway, or large because big will be cosier?
I can't decide and don't want to ask the person because I want it to be a surprise.
And yes I know they will like one because they have one and wear it a lot but it's getting very tatty.

Recipient is 26 if that makes any difference.

Medium and large isn’t the necessarily the sizes you state, this can vary from shop to shop

Always bigger. Personally I like dressing gowns to be big and snuggly!

I'm a size 14-16. I'd go large for myself. I'd rather have it cosy and big.
