Undercover vice officers, how do they do it?

I'm watching a series (Dexter)where a female cop is working undercover in vice, so as a prostitute. It got me to thinking, wouldn't the other prostitutes catch on that they never went in a car with anyone? Surely to god they don't actually have sex with punters, so how does it work?

There isn’t one sitting there tracking everyone’s movements, others go off with punters and won’t know who is going with who when they are away, and they don’t all go off with punters at the same time, how do you think it works!

I really don't know ow how it works, that's why I'm asking. Surely if a man pulls up and they all tout for business, the undercover cop would get picked at times. Then get in to the car, then what? Have him arrested I guess, but surely the other girls would notice somethings a bit off if that kept happening. My understanding is they work in small groups to offer each other some sort of protection, so would have an eye out for each other and notice weird patterns surely.

You don't get undercover vice officers in the UK. You just get the police, like normal police.

@gncq yes its always American dramas where the female goes undercover.
I've actually worked with street workers in the UK in a roundabout way earlier in my career, which is how I'm so baffled at how being undercover would ever work, from what I've seen they'd just stand out like a sore thumb and / or upset a pimp and end up beaten or worse.
