What’s Happening In Your House?

I usually work on Saturdays but this week I’m on the rota for Sunday - it feels quite strange. Been out to Asda & to return a top to the local Hospice shop for a refund. I bought 2 party tops at another branch yesterday & wasn’t allowed to try them on. One turned out to be pretty good although needs alterations. I surprised myself by being very focused in the charity shops as usually I look at everything! Was tempted by a stunning necklace & brooch set but resisted as I have sooooo much jewellery!
Making lists for England at the mo. I did my cards list last night. This year I’m only buying for family & for people I don’t see very often & making a donation to The Parkinson’s Society ( DM has what’s known as “ Parkinsonism”). Still got about 40 cards to write. Nearly there with presents. I need to think about food. We always host but DM can’t manage the stairs here anymore so we’re cooking partly at home & partly at DM & DF’s this year. Probably having spiced beef. DM is veggie so DH will make something like nut loaf for her. She’s in hospital at the moment recovering from an op but should be home before Christmas.
I have some housework to do & keep putting off sorting out all the piles & baskets of clothes. DD12 has an overflowing basket to put away. Looking forward to Strictly tonight.

We just put the tree up... Dd19 home from uni for a flying visit (2 weeks left for her til Xmas break) so she helped...

Olliesocks · 04/12/2021 15:34

Watching old Top of the Pops (1991) and thinking about what to wear to ight for works xmas do.

hotmeatymilk · 04/12/2021 15:41

3yo has a vomiting bug so we’re watching Frozen under blankets with pukey interludes, boil washing things, trying to de-vom the mattress. General winter listlessness

CurryLover55 · 04/12/2021 16:22

hotmeatymilk hope your little one gets well soon & you escape the bug!

Took ds and 3 of his friends ice skating this afternoon, I’m home now and trying to defrost!! 🥶
I need to vacuum the whole house but have to psyche myself up - knackered!

hotmeatymilk · 04/12/2021 16:30

@CurryLover55 Thank you! She rallied enough earlier to eat some tomato soup but just threw it up on the floor… and we have sanded floorboards with gaps, aaargh Grin

Your list-making is motivating me though, I’ve got all my cards written and enveloped, just haven’t been bothered to stamp and address them! As an adult I finally understand why my mum always wanted to cancel Christmas: the bloody admin.

MrsDThomas · 04/12/2021 16:34

Im home alone, fire lit, candles on, Christmas movie on and having a glass of port to warm up. (Well my nan said it did that to her!)

Waiting for DH and DS to come home. Well have a curry later. Homemade as the takeaway is 5 miles away so not worth the effort.

SmallGreenStripes · 04/12/2021 16:35

Been absolutely mad here today and I am finally having a sit down. I have chronic pain so usually try to spread activity out a bit but this weekend is a busy one!
Older boys to football this morning, I shopped while they were at training. After pick up dropped their friend home then dashed home for showers for them and unpacking the shopping for me. 15 minute turnaround and then out with all the DS as the youngest had a party. Met my mum, 2 hrs Christmas shopping with the older dc then lunch out. Collect small DS from party.
Home again, switch into DH car to go get the Christmas tree.
Then when home, make pizza dough for dinner tonight.

Just come back from a muddy dog walk at a nt place. Just put the dog gear in the machine. When it finishes I'll go up to exh to have tea with our dds and his dad. Might take a board game with me.

Just now I'm having a tea and a read of mn.

Serena1977 · 04/12/2021 16:47

Doing work for school as I'm a trainee teacher.

DH is walking the dog then he's taking dd9 to a roller disco. DS is in his bedroom on his tablet as per usual.

It is rather chilly today:(

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 04/12/2021 16:54

I have a sickness bug. But I am currently not laying on the bathroom floor which I was at four am. So I’m calling that a win. Envy

LuluBlakey1 · 04/12/2021 16:55

DH and the DC are cutting out gold stars to put on strings. I am on my ipad on mnet in another room with the cats and the woodburner lit.

polkadotpjs · 04/12/2021 16:58

@LuluBlakey1 I n my sh do this myself. I'm lying under the dog with a bad headache while DS does roundhouse kicks just a bit too close to me, practising karate.
I want take out tea and maybe a medicinal port.

BillywigSting · 04/12/2021 17:03

The weather is absolutely wild here today and we are pretty tired today, so we have spent most of the day loafing about doing very little, hiding under the blankets in bed, napping and generally being immensely lazy.

Didn't even make food. Ds has had a croissant, some fruit and a happy meal today. I'll make him some toast or something later if he's hungry but none of us have done anything to work up an appetite.

I'm currently slobbing on the couch mumanetting and drinking Baileys coffee. Dp is in bed and ds is on his switch.

It's been a lovely day.

Vickim03 · 04/12/2021 17:13

Littlest had swimming so I took her whilst hubby took son to an archery competition with cubs. I then took littlest to mums to see her cousin. Home and now trying to get through to the Chinese! Not having much luck. Might have to rethink tea

Thegreencup · 04/12/2021 17:17

My Saturday has been same as usual. Get the food shop delivered and put it away, do what housework I can be bothered to do, iron the kids uniforms and then sit on my phone or play some Nintendo with the kids.

We're currently eating pizza and chips while watching a movie.

wetotter · 04/12/2021 17:17

Not much!

Freezing cold, and just in from walking the dog. DH is prepping the potatoes for roasting, and I'm watching repeats of Christmas cookery shows.

DC are all out, so it feels all warm and calm

ToughTittyWhompus · 04/12/2021 17:18

We’ve just finished watching The Grinch (I can’t stand it but DDs love it).

Have to wash the headlice treatment off DD2s hair Xmas Sad Bloody sick of them, her hair is long and very thick and I’ve been battling them for a month. They slide off very easily with the NitNot solution but it’s a fucker to wash out. Spent 3 hours combing through.

We had pizza at 4pm. If they’re hungry later I’ll make cereal/toast/crumpets.

I’ve got a presentation to finish (can’t stand PowerPoint, it drives me mad). I’m ignoring the laundry and the bags of crap I’ve sorted that I need to haul outside to the skip bag.

StormyTeacups · 04/12/2021 17:22

Got a few decorations out earlier, tree not being got until next weekend.

Then a trip to Christmas Land at local garden centre for a browse, kids insisted on buying tinsel. Have never been before so it was fun.

Dh has been called to a couple of jobs, SSO he's out and we are making pizzas.

Bubblecap · 04/12/2021 17:23

Were going to order a take away in about an hour and watch a film. Went for a walk earlier and did the laundry.

scooterbear · 04/12/2021 17:31

Dd1 is in Glasgow visiting her boyfriend (with his mum and sister-she is 16 on Boxing Day so too young to go on her own). He plays football up there -they have been together for ages so not as weird as it sounds. Dd2 15 is out on a date, I've got to pick her up shortly. DSS1 is playing fortnite with one of the dogs on his lap. DSS2 is playing connect 4 with DP whilst we wait for our home made Nandos to cook. I'm recovering from a miscarriage with some complications this week so a tough weekend and not feeling too great but being well looked after by the fam. I'm just having a lie down on the kitchen sofa getting smothered by the other dog who is being very fussy because I think she can sense I'm not well.
Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow and up to Christmas tree shopping and trimming up.

Bellafrenum · 04/12/2021 17:34

Me and ds3 in dressing gowns after a bath. Now watching Zog while dh has a bath. Dd5 is with my parents over night. After Zog I will put DS to bed, make some mulled wine and chicken burgers for dinner and then we will put all the Christmas lights on, light my Christmas candles and watch Die Hard under a blanket. We have stinking colds so a nice early night needed. All we have done today is go to Lidl and clean the house. Tomorrow we are visiting Father Christmas, very excited for that.

Nidan2Sandan · 04/12/2021 17:39

Wanted a lie in this morning, so typically woke at 6am.

Went out xmas shopping with my friend, then home for a lay down in bed.

Now all dressed up, with war paint on as I have a meal out with my fellow karate Sensei. Which should be fun, but maybe painful with the early start I have tomorrow as I have to be out the house by 8.40am..

CoodleMoodle · 04/12/2021 18:01

Just had dinner (paella for us, pasta for the DC). Was lovely. Now the kids are in the front room watching Duggee and DH & I cba to leave the table. We're going to have our dessert in a minute, that might get us moving.

Took DD7 to her swimming lesson this afternoon, she was the only one in her class (usually 3). She was so tired afterwards! And so was I, because I normally leave DS3 at home with DH, but DH wasn't feeling well so I offered to take DS with me. He isn't tall enough to see through the window to the pool, so I had to keep lifting him. My back hurts!

Planning on getting the DC to bed in a couple of hours, and then having a nice glass of wine and playing a video game until I turn in. Bliss.
