Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my usual cuppa, in silence,in the kitchen. It won't last long though - dd2's alarm has just gone off!

We're off for a day of Christmas shopping at a local Christmas market, with my Guides. Everyone's really looking forward to it - it's been over 2 years since we went out (and I think it will be the only day out for a while!).

The house is clean, and tidy. Just the washer to put on in a minute and then washing to hang before we leave.

No tea to cook later on - we'll eat while we're out. But I will enjoy a glass of wine when we get home tonight!

What about everyone else? :)

Finishing putting up the Christmas decorations this morning, then train into London this afternoon to meet a friend and see the Christmas lights. I'm really looking forward to it - DS2 has never seen them and DS1 will only have hazy memories.

Lifeisbeautiful01 · 04/12/2021 09:28

I’m supposed to be Christmas shopping with DD2 but we all tested positive so it’ll be cheesy films and a bit of baking if we feel well enough.

badlydrawnbear · 04/12/2021 09:56

DDs have gone to the cinema with Brownies. I have 2hrs to myself. I should probably start wrapping their Christmas presents. They will be easier to hide when wrapped. Then make them do homework this afternoon. I don’t know what else.

ParkheadParadise · 04/12/2021 10:02

I'm making party bags up for dd's birthday party tomorrow. This is the first time she's had a proper party.
My inlaws are coming over later so I need to get organized before they turn up.

Simonjt · 04/12/2021 11:00

Rugby tots coaching this morning, I have an away game this afternoon, they’re four points above us and they’re having a strong season so far, so its going to be a hard fight.

My husbands gone away for the weekend, I haven’t got any planned for this evening really, just a lazy one.

ablutiions · 04/12/2021 11:12

Just bought the Christmas tree and will spend the day decorating it and the house. How lovely is that?

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 04/12/2021 11:41

Lovely thread as always I look forward to these every weekend love reading them it makes me feel so cosy thanks @lucysmam

I've just been to town quickly for Christmas haircut, it's wild out there 47mph winds and hail!

Children and DH have spent the morning putting some of our Christmas trees up (we have 3!). Last one will be next weekend.

Off to the in-laws this afternoon for lunch and just seeing them.

Lovely dinner planned of baked camembert /. biscuits / Parma ham / vine leaves etc

lollipoprainbow · 04/12/2021 11:46

Enjoying a pot of tea and crumpets. Need to blitz the House then off to town to get a Christmas jumper for dd for school next week. Chinese, wine and strictly later. Smile

Absolutely naff all.

Dp was out last night for works Christmas do and apparently one of women was possibly spiked, dp said he'd never seen anyone drop so quickly. No taxis would take her home. He ended up calling my df to take her home and didn't get home until around 6am this morning, quite sober and pretty shaken, feeling terribly guilty for 1)not sending collegue to A&E, 2)calling my df at stupid o'clock in the morning and 3) rolling in at such a ridiculous hour.

I'm not in the least bit cross with him despite not getting to bed until 3am as fed up of waiting for him to come home. I was ready to be furious too but I'm actually pretty pleased that he tried to look after her. He hasn't got out of bed yet.

Ds(8) played downstairs and watched cartoons for a bit. Then asked if he could play with his slime. I said yes but top of the coffee table only, do not get it on any fabric or on anything woven. The coffee table is wooden with rattan drawers. He shoved the slime onto the drawer. Fury ensued. Slime has been binned. Ds been throughly bollocked. Google consulted and slime successfully removed (lemon juice, water and patience is the key)

Dp heard the ructions, poked his head downstairs and was also not amused. Said he'd take ds upstairs out of my hair before I murdered him. They've been upstairs probably watching crap on the iPad for about an hour now.

I'm considering getting a very long hot shower but cba moving from the couch.

I need more coffee.

Up too early for a weekend for the Sainsbury's delivery. I've just sorted out all the cats and now about to make a ton of GF scones and sausage rolls to deliver to my dad. Then it'll be home to put up dds Christmas tree in her bedroom, something easy for tea and then a very early night with a glass of something bubbly

Good morning or better good day,
I am waiting for my 2nd get out of jail test. The test at the end of my isolation was still positive. I am now on day 17 of isolation with no signs of illness since the 27th - no baking, no decorations, WFH, no christmas presents bought (though we only do small gifts to immediate family).
I will probably get tortellini for midday.
And if I get up on a chair I can actully see the roof top of the house opposite and a bit of sky.

JustLikea · 04/12/2021 12:12

I've dropped DD off, and popped into Lidl for croissants and pretzel's. I've got the tree and decorations down from the loft. Had 2 cups of tea and a croissant. Now going to make coffee to spur me on to hoover the stairs. Picking up DD later and will then decorate tree before going out to the pub with friends.

notacooldad · 04/12/2021 12:12

My walk with friends was cancelled. We would have been blown over Nicky Nook!

If you've tested positive for covid and have had covid you can't test for the next 3 months
as the results are skewed.

So if you no longer have symptoms and have isolated for the 10 days then you can go about your normal business

MissAmbrosia · 04/12/2021 12:23

Dd has gone to do something with airguns in the woods with a group of friends. It's an organised thing with training, so hopefully not dangerous! I have been doing laundry and am waiting for my shopping delivery. Have friends coming for lunch tomorrow and I'm planning a Xmas dry run with sprouts and everything so might do a bit of prep today. And a lounge on the sofa with my kindle.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/12/2021 12:35

@JustLikea - You can do this, I am not in the UK
They expect you to be under a certain level and health authorities check up on you.
But I do not want to turn this into a 'plague thread' - I have managed to get some serious language learning done Grin

Justme10 · 04/12/2021 12:42

My show for tonight has been cancelled so the Christmas tree is going up instead Xmas Smile

endlesswinter · 04/12/2021 12:45

I have a second job interview late this afternoon.
I haven't had paid employment since moving to the USA four years ago and had been at the same company for 15 years before that.
So I'm pretty rusty and slightly stressed.

I like the sound of the work but the hours would be difficult with dc so I'll be both relieved and disappointed if next interview doesn't go well.

JustLikea · 04/12/2021 13:14

Oh you poor thing so you're just kind of trapped at home, not fun. I've been learning French on Duolingo the last year and amazingly I'm now really proficient because I do a bit everyday. So good luck with your language skills keep at it it really pays off.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/12/2021 13:22

Justlikea Yep - I've attended the last two Duocons on zoom and the concept behind Duolingo is didactically sound and the little green package of guilt keeps me at it. I do Babel as well because learning a foreign language via another foreign language is difficult.

And yes - it is tortellini - room service has arrived!!!

Mumski45 · 04/12/2021 13:29

Currently curled up on the sofa having had comfort lunch of tomato soup and fresh bread straight out of the oven. However I earned this as was up at 6:30 to see DS2 off on coach to his away rugby match then left at 8:30 to take DS1 to his home rugby match. Spent 2 hours in freezing windy rain watching rugby then silent trip home as very muddy DS1 in foul mood even though they won. DS1 has black eye and DS2 was taken off as had a bang to head so email from coach to keep an eye on him this afternoon 😢😢😢.

Just a typical Saturday morning really.

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 04/12/2021 13:32

MrsBerthaRochester · 04/12/2021 13:43

Cheered up today by lovely presents and cards from kids. Just put the xmas tree up with youngest and plan is to get a takeaway, watch Strictly and remind myself how lucky I am compared to many others.

AllotmentTime · 04/12/2021 14:47

Happy birthday @MrsBerthaRochester!

Hope the hangover clears, enjoy your takeaway later Xmas Smile

Deathraystare · 04/12/2021 14:48

I am at work this afternoon but tomorrow I am going to the theatre! Seeing The Incidence of the Dog in the Night (think that is the title anyway!), It had been one of our book club books years ago and my Brother took a class along and enjoyed it.
