Social media posts that make you cringe

Saw one the other day-

‘Guys, where can I donate food to? I really want to help’ To me it just smacks of virtue signalling and wanting praise. My view is that if they’ve got FB then presumably they could Google this and have they never seen the food bank bins at the door of every supermarket?

Phew rant over!

Last few Christmas’s people saying I’m not sending Christmas cards this year I’m donating to charity. Anyone does this year I’m instantly unfriending them .
Also these scans like and share and get a free meal for 10 people plus drinks all night , and people bloody believe it . you’ll get the odd one who’ll go not sure if this isn’t real but will share anyway , well aren’t you special kind of idiot .

Swirlywoo · 03/12/2021 18:50

I love these (and hate social media!)

MrsIronfoundersson · 03/12/2021 18:53

@MLMshouldbeillegal

A facebook acquaintance who has a dd in the same school year as my dd posted an image of her daughter's exam results this year.

Not just "So proud of you for passing your exams Lucy" but a photo of the actual grades.

Just awful.

Same! GCSE results for all to see! The son isn't even on fb.
Goonie2000 · 03/12/2021 18:53

Selfies, especially ones that have been filtered. I hate them! Selfie post then stupid caption like 'not gonna let the haters get me down'..or 'i can't believe my luck'...so cringe... Delete!!🤣

Jmaho · 03/12/2021 18:54

A guy that I have known for over 20 years is absolutely lovely but he has always put every woman he has ever dated on a massive pedestal. Most of them have treated him badly. He is married now and his wife is equally lovely but he makes me cringe as whenever either of them post pics of them together they put #punching. She posts pictures of herself going out looking good etc and she will tag him and do the #punching thing and all their friends will jump on and reiterate that he is punching and they don't know what she sees in him etc
Really annoys me to be honest. Not sure why. Plus it's not true at all. He's a good looking successful guy and I would say they're equal looks wise (not that I think about it or it even matters one bit!)

Hazelbazel · 03/12/2021 18:57

@lastchristmasigaveyoumyheart

Oh and the ones that post stuff like...

'Mental Health is nothing to be ashamed of.'

'Sorry I've not posted lately, I've been suffering from mental health.'

It should be 'poor' mental health or 'problems with my' mental health etc!!

Oh my god yes!!

Also people who post memes about something that’s obviously aimed at one particular person but they’re trying to pass it off as just something they’ve shared willy nilly. ‘Some people stab you in the back when you’re just trying to be their friend’ etc.

Oh and name droppers. I had a Facebook friend that would constantly refer to clothes, shampoo, shoes etc by their (expensive) brand name. Eventually deleted her when she posted that her son had banged his head and they’d had to “take him to bupa.”

Mincepiepoptarts · 03/12/2021 18:59

Ones that start ‘Conversations with my 4 year old...’ followed by something incredibly erudite, eloquent and in perfect alignment with the poster’s own political views.

Eg ‘Comversations with my 1 week old newborn.... Mummy, why did all the nasty racists vote for Brexit!? Please can I donate all my pocket money to (insert charity) until I’m 18?’ #proudmummoment

DHOTYA on Twitter calls the particularly egregious ones out, worth a look.

Monkeymilkshake · 03/12/2021 19:03

Oh i’ve got another one!
Someone posted a picture of their car being clean by 4 men(i mean, why take a picture in the first place!) and then wrote “i’d like 4 men working on me like that!” And tagged her husband! WTF!?

Hyenaormeercat · 03/12/2021 19:05

Oh God! So many!!!
‘Pissed off’ followed by ‘Whats up hun?’ Attention seeking twat!
What time to the Year 11s go Into Bash Street Comp?? I’m sure Sue, that they can text a mate if they really don’t know?
What time does the Chemist in Acacia Rd open? Just Google it then look on the website!
The sharing of Child missing poster, not official police one so you don’t know if child is actually missing or subject to parental dispute and besides, they live in Minnesota, not likely to turn up in Birmingham UK Sandra! Extra points for being 6 years out of date!
The ‘my light is always on if you ever need to talk, suicide awareness’ If anyone actually took you up on it you would shut the door faster than you could say ‘virtue signalling’
‘My sons/daughters, my life’ Yeah, that’ll be why you chucked them out aged 17 was it Teresa?
Not seen for a while but there was the ‘every like Facebook will donate a $ to this sick child’s medical treatment’, no they bloody won’t you utter twunt!

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 03/12/2021 19:09

"beautiful inside and out hun"

Interrobanger · 03/12/2021 19:16

The ones that give too much personal medical detail:

“Picked up my new pain meds from the hospital yesterday and spent all night lying on the bathroom floor puking my guts up. Now my shoulder is completely frozen and I can’t see out of my left eye, plus my prolapse is rearing its ugly head again. Ugh, fibromyalgia is the absolute worst…”, etc, etc, etc.

This one is my favourite tweet 🤣

Hyenaormeercat · 03/12/2021 19:25

And theres more
‘So proud of my Alfie’, really? he is a druggy, nasty little shit who is destined for prison by 25
‘Happy Christmas has arrived at the Smiths loving family life’, photo of happy 4 year old in front of tree, mum and dad toasting in Xmas jumpers…all very nice but we all know your DH had an affair, you are a control freak and your 17 year old is on remand.

When people who live in the same house tell each other they love each other on Facebook. Or write posts to people that have died.

MrTumblesEyebrows · 03/12/2021 20:17

My friend posts stuff about her baby as if she's the only person to have ever given birth or love their child. I've hidden/unfollowed her and told her I don't use SM so don't be offended if I don't like or comment. I actually don't use SM but I wish I hadn't said because now she texts it straight to me 🙄

EishetChayil · 03/12/2021 20:57

Vaguebooking, sharing idiotic chain posts, self-congratulatory behaviour.

I met a nice woman at a mutual hobby, and after chatting on a number of occasions, she added me on Facebook. I had to nip our nascent friendship in the bud, as she's a terrible vaguebooker. I just can't be doing with it.

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 03/12/2021 21:02

I'm cackling away at some of these posts.

The perfect family posts are always entertaining. I have a family on Facebook who are previous neighbours. I honestly don't think they realise that people on their friends list actually know them in real life. The parents in their 60s and their children in their 20s and 30s live their lives through social media. Constant pictures of every single time they pop round to each other's houses. Posts declaring how much they love each other, what they've bought each other, and how perfect their relationships are and how they envy their parents long and happy marriage. They don't mention dad's affair with the babysitter who he knocked up and then abandoned the child. Nor do they mention how the eldest son in his mid 30s slept with his little sister's barely 18 year old friend.

Yes. Why do people do this? I find it so odd.
Larryyourwaiter · 03/12/2021 21:17

We took this weekend at centre Parcs out of its plastic so we can’t resell it. Please give us access to your personal info and share this obviously fake post.

rockingthelook · 03/12/2021 21:30

People who leave an emoji of a broken heart and a tear...get a grip you attention seeking prat..whilst you wait for the 'you ok hun?'
Currently lots of photos of Christmas trees and houses decorated....stealth boasts
Just unfriended someone I know with a disabled child who posts nearly every day with photos and videos whilst she's asleep, wearing a new outfit, has a new toy, also revealing various levels of health issues, ie. was sick/has diarrhoea today...just no!

ChrissyPlummer · 03/12/2021 21:31

@BearSoFair I read that as ‘murdered’ at first Grin.

Mine is all of the above and now Elf on the bastarding Shelf. I don’t give a fuck where you’ve put it. And why the fuck you think I’m
interested is beyond me.

Hyenaormeercat · 03/12/2021 21:32

Oh yes Larry, and the the winner of this RV was only 16 so re comping the draw...like and say why you want it...really??

BearSoFair · 03/12/2021 21:34

@ChrissyPlummer Annoying as it was I think that might have been a slight overreaction Grin

Chunkymenrock · 03/12/2021 21:35

The moronic 'bare with me.' No thanks, I don't wish to remove any clothing.
