Shame on you Sainsbury's

Went into our local middle sized Sainsbury's yesterday and just had to complain. One end of the fruit and veg aisle which had previously had a variety of veg had gone. Replaced by Christmas offers for huge boxes of crisps and biscuits
I know they are just trying to push their Christmas sales, and that people will buy them, but come on, there is the whole store to use. Hmm

I get that the supermarket is putting the things they want me to buy in the most prominent positions. I get that it’s annoying when things have been moved around and you just want to get in and out quickly. It’s also frustrating when they don’t have a particular item you want in stock.

But if I go into the supermarket to buy items to cook my evening meal, I’m not going to fall apart and just leave with a trolley full of Quality Streets and no vegetables and end up obese because Sainsbury’s have put sugar directly in my line of vision.

I do have some self control.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 01/12/2021 09:43

@Crunchymum

My Sainsburys is terrible. Whole walls shelved with Xmas food and booze. Much noticeably different to usual times though and the empty shelves recently least me to believe this is as much about filling shelves as it is maximising profit.

The fresh fish and meat counters have both been removed and before being shelves of Xmas stuff it was just shelves of random shit that they had in stock.

Complaining was really unnecessary.

😂 yet here you are... complaining
LampLighter414 · 01/12/2021 09:45

Shame on you Sainsburys. Boo hiss boo.

withlotsoflove · 01/12/2021 09:46

@ColinTheKoala
😂
The op mentioned in her original post that she “ ranted”
She back tracked when called out on it!
So… it’s not really a case of accusing someone of lying is it?

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 09:47

Where has anyone got that I was rude or shouted?! I am the most laid back person usually, and my "rant" is probably a bit of poetic license for the internet

So there was no perimenopausal rant at a teenager after all. What happened then?

JinglingHellsBells · 01/12/2021 09:48

You are being a bit silly over this OP.

There is a thing called customer choice. You can ignore the crap food and buy what you want. If they don't have it, go to another shop. Unless you were making some very unusual soup I am sure there were enough vegs either fresh or frozen, or canned, or dried, for soup.

Do you have a very rigid way of behaving and get upset if anything is a bit different to normal?

As it happens I've not noticed any shortages of vegetables in either Tesco or Waitrose and I buy tonnes each week. But I guess that's a 'by the way'.

Supermarkets are full of tempting 'bad food' so I am not sure where you'd draw the line.

TheOrigRights · 01/12/2021 09:48

What couldn't you buy?

JinglingHellsBells · 01/12/2021 09:50

I can see this being fodder for the Mail!

ExConstance · 01/12/2021 09:51

I want crisps, chocolate and nuts at Christmas, I'll probably eat less fruit and veg. I don't want a lecture from the health police about this, and am very pleased to see i won't have to trek all round Sainsburys to find what I want. To avoid all doubt I'm size 8/10 very fit and normally eat a healthy diet, but certainly not at Christmas, which is feasting time.

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 09:54

@JinglingHellsBells

I can see this being fodder for the Mail!
Definitely. They’ll love this, they’ll be lining some library photos of a Sainsbury’s foyer up. Maybe they’ll get Sainsbury’s to comment. 🍿
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/12/2021 10:00

@CaMePlaitPas

No you're right OP, Sainsbury's should cater to you, I mean, have you tried making a vegetable soup with 40 bags of crisps? Impossible.
😂😂
Luckingfovely · 01/12/2021 10:04

Batshit.

Luckingfovely · 01/12/2021 10:09

Oh and... there are two solid factual
reasons behind this. 1) national
shortages of many food items meaning that the the f&v aisle needs to be smaller anyway (Brexit, Covid); and 2) store planners doing their job and having seasonal items at the front of the store.

And you are an absolute bitch for ranting at a teenager. Do you really not see that that they are human too with feelings, and you could have absolutely destroyed their day. If you really are a HCP I feel very sorry for your patients, as you are clearly not somebody who should be working closely with other people.

Oh, and get some fucking mediation for your peri, and never talk to anyone else again.

Luckingfovely · 01/12/2021 10:09

*fucking medication, obviously Angry

Viviennemary · 01/12/2021 10:11

At least it was food and not useless Christmas tat.

LittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 01/12/2021 10:11

Bloody hell @Luckingfovely that's it in a nutshell!!

LittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 01/12/2021 10:12

Less fruit and veg out means less waste!

Bellyups · 01/12/2021 10:19

@JumpLeadsForTwo you epitomise the reason why I know longer work with humans Grin

kowari · 01/12/2021 10:28
@kowari because people will always buy fruit and veg. The types of biscuits / chocs etc people buy are more likely to change depending on what’s being promoted.
That supports leaving the fruit and veg and putting the Christmas crisps and biscuits in the crisps and biscuits aisles.

SelfHelpPlease · 01/12/2021 10:35

Sadly (for you) I don't think they're going to move it because You complained. Sainsburys isn't the only supermarket out there you know. Enjoy your soup, when you get your veg, eventually Wink

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 10:42

This is the time of year when the usual aisles are full and they have to put stock elsewhere in the shop.

ColinTheKoala · 01/12/2021 10:55

And of course it's fine to rant at someone you don't know online.

But if I go into the supermarket to buy items to cook my evening meal, I’m not going to fall apart and just leave with a trolley full of Quality Streets and no vegetables and end up obese because Sainsbury’s have put sugar directly in my line of vision me neither but that's because they've taken my favourites out of Quality Street and I will never buy it again Grin

JudgeJ · 01/12/2021 11:13

@KaptainKaveman

Talk about over-reacting, Hmm. Nothing better to do, OP?
I really can't believe the amount of energy some people expend on finding trivial things about which to get hysterical, I do wish that I had so much free time.
LuluBlakey1 · 01/12/2021 11:15

They are such a greedy business. Enormous profits now- absolutely enormous - tripled I think- and they cancelled the 'Double Up' scheme this year. Disgraceful.

BleuJay · 01/12/2021 11:17

I can’t believe that someone would actually be so ghastly as to take offence let alone complain about this!
