Shame on you Sainsbury's

Went into our local middle sized Sainsbury's yesterday and just had to complain. One end of the fruit and veg aisle which had previously had a variety of veg had gone. Replaced by Christmas offers for huge boxes of crisps and biscuits
I know they are just trying to push their Christmas sales, and that people will buy them, but come on, there is the whole store to use. Hmm

@Sparklingbrook

I think everyone should have a go at working in retail. DS did as a teenager, and the tales he would tell were shocking. People think they can treat young staff terribly.
I agree. I think you have to have worked in a shop to know how to behave in one.

Ranting at young store staff is a really mean thing to do - that would have bothered them more than you realise, and they'll be worried they could be in trouble if they didn't appease you at the time. If you think you have a valid complaint about a company's operations, put it in writing to head office.

ChiefAdjusterOfRubensShorts · 01/12/2021 08:07

For once I actually have no words………

Madworld26 · 01/12/2021 08:07

I’m sure it provided a laugh in the staff room later on at least.

Btw, fat people aren’t fat because they can’t be bothered to walk to the veg aisle ffs

Popopopo · 01/12/2021 08:07

I've worked in retail for a really long time and in my experience, 95% of complaints in shops get completely ignored...we get these types of complaints regularly, if you took the display away someone else would rant about that instead

P0ntiacBandit · 01/12/2021 08:09

@JumpLeadsForTwo

I don't understand why so many of you are saying complaining was unnecessary. Completely different obviously, but if generations of women hadn't complained about inequalities, life would be very different for the majority of us. Obesity abs lifestyle related health problems is a huge issue in the developed world. I don't understand why more people don't complain!!!
That's a leap and a half.
Holidaytan · 01/12/2021 08:09

You’d be better off complaining via Twitter and tagging influential accounts, rather than to a teenager who has zero influence and gives even less fucks.

CaMePlaitPas · 01/12/2021 08:09

No you're right OP, Sainsbury's should cater to you, I mean, have you tried making a vegetable soup with 40 bags of crisps? Impossible.

bigbluebus · 01/12/2021 08:12

My DS is shelf stacking in a supermarket. He's done his time eating junk food but equally loves to cook so likes good quality food. He's been astounded at the volume of fizzy drinks, crisps and biscuits that fly off the shelves every day. I don't think one end if aisle display of crisps is going to make a lot of difference to the health of the nation. And I say that as someone who gets mildly frustrated each year trying to do my ordinary weekly shop and seeing products being replaced with mince pies, stollen and panettone in October!

Busybee5000 · 01/12/2021 08:13

Shop elsewhere then! I guarantee the shop workers will be able to do naff all about it!

SarahBellam · 01/12/2021 08:15

In case you haven’t noticed, the fruit and veg sections of supermarkets are looking a bit sparse these days. At least this crap helps fill the shelves and makes the entrance to the store look a bit less sad and pathetic.

frumpety · 01/12/2021 08:16

Were they doing the boxes of crisps for £3 again ?

LuneyTunes · 01/12/2021 08:16

When there's gaps in the supply chain, shops are trying to make it look full by putting all the packaged food in its place, could just be that

HoppingPavlova · 01/12/2021 08:16

Sure, no doubt your rant at the teenage cashier will revolutionise Sainsbury’s methods of marketing Confused.

DismantledKing · 01/12/2021 08:18

The poor teenager at customer services was a little bemused at my rant!!

I bet they were. You’re a bullying weirdo.

Laiste · 01/12/2021 08:24

I .....

no! i have no words

GrinGrin

Port1aCastis · 01/12/2021 08:25

Well I'm sure Sainsbos took a lot of notice of you ranting, shame on you shouting at a teenager who has to do as they're told.

Wonder if the produce for Sainsbos fruit and veg aisle is stuck at a port due to Brexit and driver shortages.

Laiste · 01/12/2021 08:29

Yes i do.

I am really struggling to connect moving some veg for xmas chocs with the suffrage movement.

You were able to complain.
You were listened to.
You have the choice to shop elsewhere.
You weren't forced to buy the chocolate.

Shops are businesses. They're full of xmas tat at xmas. Personally i'm finding the predictability of it quite reassuring after the last 2 years we've had.

slashlover · 01/12/2021 08:30

The poor teenager at customer services was a little bemused at my rant!!

Did you also rant about the price rises because the teenager has as much influence over them as they do on product placement?

gofg · 01/12/2021 08:30

Unbelievable ........

Pinksloth · 01/12/2021 08:30

@SpindlesWinterWhorl

Women's rights were not built on complaining at teenagers.

Perhaps complain to the government and Tesco Head Office about the over-promotion of ultra-processed food.

Both are matters of political policy first and foremost.

This! Quite clearly.

That poor teenager.

Crinkle77 · 01/12/2021 08:30

I get yop. My local Tesco is having a revamp and are moving everything. It's a pain cos I used to know where everything was and could just go straight to the aisle I needed. Now I'm wandering around looking for stuff. Why they do it before xmas god only knows. Well do know why but still annoying.

BleuJay · 01/12/2021 08:32

Good grief!

Shame on you Sainsbury's
NCForNosies · 01/12/2021 08:32

Didn't the Gov ask supermarkets to hide supply issues? All of our local supermarkets have been shuffling things around for a couple of months now. When we eventually find what we want, the section is significantly smaller. It's not necessarily by choice.

Yes, marketing is tactical but as an adult we have the power to walk past and ignore it. As parents, we also have the ability to say no to our children.

It's a private business and you don't need to shop there if their store plan with Christmas treats on display offends you.

ItsSoEarly · 01/12/2021 08:32

I used to work as a customer assistant at Sainsburys. It was a great company to work for.
I would have apologised to you 'Sorry, sorry, Christmas, company policy, blah, blah, blah' whilst thinking to myself 'Fuck off and get a life'.
There's always one.

bordermidgebite · 01/12/2021 08:33

No they should not reduce the amount of fruit snd veg , it may be business sense but it's also immoral . Our branch does not do this

They should be putting the Christmas junk food in place of other junk food
