Shame on you Sainsbury's

Went into our local middle sized Sainsbury's yesterday and just had to complain. One end of the fruit and veg aisle which had previously had a variety of veg had gone. Replaced by Christmas offers for huge boxes of crisps and biscuits
I know they are just trying to push their Christmas sales, and that people will buy them, but come on, there is the whole store to use. Hmm

I don't understand why so many of you are saying complaining was unnecessary. Completely different obviously, but if generations of women hadn't complained about inequalities, life would be very different for the majority of us. Obesity abs lifestyle related health problems is a huge issue in the developed world. I don't understand why more people don't complain!!!

The poor teenager at customer services was a little bemused at my rant!!

Glad it made you feel better but hope you realise that they also wont give two hoots about your complaint, complaints like these go in one ear and out the other. The store will have a layout plan that will have been desinged by a team at head office and the store will just be implementing it as told.

Sirzy · 01/12/2021 07:47

Really your comparing women’s rights to not being able to get what you wanted in Sainsbury’s? Grin even by mumsnet standards that’s one massive leap

Not sure your comparison fits.

It’s a really busy time in retail at the moment so I’m not sure stopping a member of staff from working to complain about something they have no say over is a good use of their or your time. Maybe send a strongly worded email to the CEO or something if you feel that passionately about this.

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 01/12/2021 07:49

@Outlyingtrout

Why did this total non-event annoy you so much that you "had to" complain and start a thread on mumsnet? If this is genuine and not the lamest trolling of all time then seriously, you need to think about why it bothers you so much. My mum is like this. Wound up about everything constantly and it's bloody exhausting. It's absolutely pathetic and it makes her unpleasant company. Not to mention embarrassing when she "confronts" people over some ridiculous perceived slight or error.
Some people are just like this, and I agree it's exhausting to be around. Every encounter, engagement, phone call, or appointment turns out to be a massive drama, problem, disaster or convoluted narrative of doom-laden anger.

Their cup isn't just half empty - it's ruined.

Poor teenager indeed. Being ranted at about something they can’t change while trying to do their job. Sad

Yes, the complaint about chocolates in Sainsbo and the suffragette struggle are so similar aren't they OP? You carry on with your 'rant' in the face of a 'poor teenager at customer services' (your words, not mine) and you'll change the world.
OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2021 07:50

It's quite possible that they didn't have enough fruit and veg to fill that area and so are just stocking it with whatever they have.
Even our normally bountiful veg box arrived looking very depleted this week.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/12/2021 07:50

bah humbug

AnnaSW1 · 01/12/2021 07:51

This is hilarious. They do that to fill in empty shelves when they have a lack of stock. At least you gave someone a giggle.

EarringsandLipstick · 01/12/2021 07:53

The poor teenager at customer services was a little bemused at my rant!!

That's horrible of you.

I would be amazed if they chose to not stock veg & instead replace it with crisps. I expect there was a supply issue re veg

Where I am, I've certainly never encountered fruit & veg being replaced my seasonal treats.

And being perimenopausal is no excuse for being rude & irrational.

LagneyandCasey · 01/12/2021 07:53

Is there a Bonkers Thread of the Year award? 🏆

SeasonFinale · 01/12/2021 07:53

I can't understand why you can't understand that people think you were bonkers

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 01/12/2021 07:53

Women's rights were not built on complaining at teenagers.

Perhaps complain to the government and Tesco Head Office about the over-promotion of ultra-processed food.

Both are matters of political policy first and foremost.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/12/2021 07:55

Changing where the fruit and veg is stocked won’t solve or impact on obesity. It’s a much more complex issue than that. If people like me want to eat a family sized bar of chocolate for example they could put 600 carts of broccoli and apples in the way and put the chocolate right at the far side of the store and I’d still ignore the healthy stuff and walk to get the chocolate.

Olliesocks · 01/12/2021 07:56

I hope you’re proud of yourself.

Catfog · 01/12/2021 07:58

They're a business, their goal is to make money, having these spur of the moment or good value purchases at the front of the store helps maximise what people spend. If its like the one here there are tonnes of fruit and veg ailes and the end ones are also on the main aisles.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 01/12/2021 07:59

I think you have a very valid point op but probably better to give your feedback to their head office rather than the staff - they just do as they are told

Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 08:00

I think everyone should have a go at working in retail. DS did as a teenager, and the tales he would tell were shocking.
People think they can treat young staff terribly.

This. Don't take out your frustrations on an underpayed teenager. If this really bothers you write to the CEO. Write to the government.

If it's not worth your time or the price of a stamp it clearly doesn't bother you very much at all.

I have worked on a supermarket customer services desk. I didn't get to talk to senior store management let alone pass complaints on to policy makers. When people like you came to the desk we would nod, smile, apologise and forget what you said the minute you left.

NewbieAlert · 01/12/2021 08:02

I’d be more annoyed about them constantly moving stuff.
So annoying when I need a chocolate santa and it’s by the apples.

toomuchlaundry · 01/12/2021 08:03

In our local supermarket the closer we get to Christmas they remove the cut flower section and replace it with additional fruit and veg.

As others have said I wonder if this is a stock issue. Some parts of the usual fruit and veg section are looking very depleted at the moment

Roselilly36 · 01/12/2021 08:05

You complained, seriously? Wow, best you stay at home, with the lead up to Christmas then OP, as you are so easily offended.

I really feel for retail staff at this time of year, tough job that is unappreciated by so many.

Totally unnecessary complaint, especially on the day masks became a requirement in stores again, I expect the staff have had enough to deal with.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/12/2021 08:05

Yes. Completely agree.
Sparklingbrook · 01/12/2021 08:06

From what I can gather and instructions come down from Head Office of what gets put where. At this time of year there’s stock all over the place and it all sells very fast.
I would think that in a couple of week’s time when people are buying fruit and veg for Christmas it’ll be back there.
