I have my grandson tonight.

For the first time, overnight. He's 7 months old and obviously the most perfect baby that ever existed Grin
Mum is back to work next month (I work part time so will be helping fill in the childcare gaps) so it seems a good opportunity to give his parents a night off and for him to be with me for a long period.
But he isn't going to be impressed when he wakes in the night to discover it's expressed milk in a bottle and not boob ! (He takes a bottle but not with enthusiasm and he hasn't slept through yet)
Wish me luck... there is a reason 54yr olds don't have babies Grin
I see him most days, he is absolutely happy with me, but I have a feeling it might be a LONG night.....

*but I get the cuddles, and to bath him in the morning and all the lovely lovely baby stuff ...

Aww I hope you have a smooth night! What a lovely time for you to spend together ❤️ Hopefully he'll be so tired that he can't raise too much of a protest about the bottle!

Blueroses99 · 30/11/2021 23:22

Ah enjoy, hope it all goes well. You’re doing a lovely thing and will have a great bond with your grandson. My DD loves sleepovers with her grandparents (and I appreciate the occasional night off!)

Bloodybridget · 30/11/2021 23:24

Good luck! I hope you both have a reasonably peaceful night.

Awwwww. My children are still young, but I'm so looking forward to being a Grandma.

Frazzled2207 · 30/11/2021 23:27

Aw his parents will be so grateful

MaggieFS · 30/11/2021 23:28

How lovely and what lucky parents. Good luck.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 30/11/2021 23:29

Awww. I miss the baby days so much. But I darent wish to be a granny just yet at 35 years old!

StillMedusa · 30/11/2021 23:42

Pommes It's the best thing ever! I have four (now adult obviously) children.. DD2 lives close by (DS2 has autism and will never be independent) the other two are 180 miles and 10000 miles away Sad so I am so so grateful to be able to help, and to have such a lovely relationship with my grandson... I see him most days and the love I feel for him is incredible... all the joy but not the broken nights (til tonight!)

Being Granny is just the best thing ever!

I am a granny too. It’s great. My gc has given me a new lease of life and was a ray of absolute light in some dark COVID times.

Unreasonabubble · 01/12/2021 00:01

Oh how lovely! Have a brilliant sleepless night xx

Just10moreminutesplease · 01/12/2021 00:04

You sound so lovely! (I’m a bit jealous of your daughter Grin)

(I am 58 and foster mum to a 7 month old and a 19 month old)

You sound so happy. It’s lovely.

I have many grandchildren and have always babysat and looked after them. I love it as well which is why I have a few under my roof tonight and my 16 years old granddaughter in bed with me tonight because she’s come to help granny look after her cousins so she could also spend time with them.

WeeTattieBogle · 01/12/2021 00:16

Honestly. Being a granny makes my heart sing.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 01/12/2021 00:21

Oh, that's made me tear up a bit! My teenage DC are SO close to my mum, and she to them because she put in the effort when they were babies, toddlers, etc. She would have been about the same age as you when DS was born, and they just adore one another. She is the person he can go to when he just needs somewhere soft & soothing because he trusts her so much.

Enjoy your cuddles, and if it does end up being a difficult night, know that one day he will tower over you in height, but the cuddles you give him now will be repaid when he rests his head on top of yours and says 'love you Nana'

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/12/2021 00:23

Awwww how lovely.

dalmatianmad · 01/12/2021 08:52

My 1st born Grandson is 10 weeks old and I've had him 1 night a week since he was a few days old. Initially to get them a break but now it's our little routine.
It's the best feeling ever, I feel so lucky that my DD trusts me with him.
She goes back to work part time in January and I've changed my hours at work so I can look after him for 2 days a week.

Love him so much 💙

SofaKingKnotBovvered · 01/12/2021 09:23

I hope you had the best sleepless night ever Grin

Rageagainstthebing · 01/12/2021 09:28

I hope you had a wonderful night! Although the only times my DD slept through the night was when my mum was watching her, I hope you had equal luck!

Aposterhasnoname · 01/12/2021 09:31

Awww, I had mine for the first time a few weeks ago. It was lovely and he was good as gold. Bit older than yours though at 14 months. He slept right through and I actually had to wake him the next morning. Kept checking he was still breathing Grin his parents were flabbergasted.

Houseofvelour · 01/12/2021 09:46

This is so lovely 😊 I hope you had a great night! xx

Capferret · 01/12/2021 09:54

How was your night @StillMedusa.
My dgs is 9 now and we looked after him loads when he was small.
As you say all of the joy and you can hand him back.

WeeTattieBogle · 01/12/2021 09:56

This is such a warm and happy thread with posters who are very happy to be a granny and family who are happy to let them be a granny.

❤️

thebabessavedme · 01/12/2021 10:00

mine is 6 now, if he sleeps over he likes to sleep with me so 'we can cuddle in the night', sounds better than the reality really Grin, he wriggles, puffs, sleeps in a starfish shape, throws the duvet over me, not a great idea for a menopausel woman Grin and baby yodas sharp ears are a killer when sticking in your ribs! and wakes up bloody early (I then send him into Grandad) I would'nt have it any other way! I cannot describe the love I have for him! Hope you had a wonderful night OP!

Ragwort · 01/12/2021 10:02

Lovely thread, my DS is 20 now and had/has a wonderfully close relationship with my DPs (sadly my DF has since died). He will take my mum (88) out for a trendy lunch and ring her up for a chat when he is away at Uni. Such a special relationship. No ILs so he only had DGPs on one side.
