Because I just watched the episode where she needs to find the money for a down payment for her apartment after her split with Aiden and oh my... what a whiny self pitying woman...

She guilt trips everyone and acts all "cutesy and quirky " about "her shoes" being the reason she has no money. A 35 year old woman acting 19..

(Yes I know it's a TV show..) but what a knob she is.....

That episode gives me the rage. How she berates Charlotte for not offering her the money and moans that she's had to walk in her Manolos as she can't afford a taxi now or something.

It was only watching it all back years later you realise what an awful person she was.

OhWhyNot · 30/11/2021 22:10

That episode always annoyed me

But I loved Carrie at the time now I think she is ridiculous and selfish

Was great at the time but another series after the embarrassment of the second film Hmm

IDontThinkSoNo · 30/11/2021 22:13

She was truly awful in that episode. Pretty annoying in all the others too.

I thought the episode was one of the few times I had seen any indication on TV that shopping as a pastime has any consequences. I quite liked that.

Rosewaterblossom · 30/11/2021 22:26

Yes and Charlotte gave up her beautiful ring to fund carries down payment.

Now she acting all "cutesy " being "drunk at vogue" on a couple of martinis. I'm sure in real life you wouldn't be taken seriously if you got drunk on the job on the first day... at vogue!

I agree.

It was really the others, Miranda in particular, that made the series.
All the others develop. Miranda does what's right for her family, Charlotte stops being so superficial and opts for a man who doesn't fit her perfect image and even Samantha learns to love.

Carrie is all about the drama and gets what she deserves. She cheats on the decent man in favour of someone who is never fully available because that's the fantasy she's created. But Big only ever does big and showy (not the true love shown in Miranda's scene with Steve's mum) and she's never totally comfortable in their relationship.
She's actually a good warning to women of what being an arse gets you!

clatterclatter · 30/11/2021 22:31

She is a proper knob.

It’s like a right of passage, you watch her at 19 and are mesmerised.

You watch her again at 29 and yikes. You see that she’s actually not a good friend at all and is, in fact, a bit of a shit.

MissMinutes24 · 30/11/2021 22:34

Ha I'm rewatching atm! Yes she's awful in that episode.

But actually rewatching it again I'm really struck by Samantha - I don't know if it's possible to have so many casual sexual encounters without damaging yourself. Especially since she's also got commitment issues.

MissMinutes24 · 30/11/2021 22:34

*damaging yourself emotionally

FizzyOrange · 30/11/2021 22:35

She was a terrible friend, I'm thinking of when Miranda had just had her baby and Carrie visited her and wanted to talk about her things, then got all huffy when Miranda couldn't give her enough attention as she was having trouble breast-feeding, so Carrie flounced off Hmm

Just to clarify, are you referring to Carrie or Miranda when you say she's a good warning of what being an arse gets you?

She was awful, I agree.

I loved SATC in its day, though.

BrilliantBetty · 30/11/2021 22:43

Loved her then and now. But yes, she is quite ridiculous.

OwlinaTree · 30/11/2021 22:44

Isn't that the point though? Sometimes she's an amazing friend, sometimes she's not. Isn't that like life?

Rosewaterblossom · 30/11/2021 22:52

I think the problem is, when we watched it as teens (which most did) she seemed a fun, cool friend. But when you watch it when older years later with hindsight, she's actually really self obsessed and not a good friend at all. Whatever their problems, it always ends up about carrie...

OP posts:
Rosewaterblossom · 01/12/2021 23:03

Oh my, now Carrie is self obsessing about "the face girl" to Miranda, her sleep deprived friend who has just had a baby and has to go to work.. as a lawyer.

But that’s the point of Samantha - that she is able to have multiple partners and be fully developed, happy and content.

I love Kim’s depiction of Sammy Jo - she made her three dimensional, rounded and real. She’s compassionate, emotionally honest, loyal and non judgemental. And a fan of sex.

There’s going to be a large hole in the reboot.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 01/12/2021 23:14

But yes, Carrie is - as ever - a total pain in the arse.

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 01/12/2021 23:17

I loved SATC when I was a teenager, was obsessed.

But I've seen the trailer for the new series and I just feel like it's going to make me cringe inside out. Just not sure how successful it'll be without Samantha.

ZenNudist · 01/12/2021 23:18

That's a bad episode. Worse is :a woman's right to shoes" where she makes a friend repurchase her ridiculously expensive shoes

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 02/12/2021 08:08

I'm looking forward to the new series, though. Shame Kristin Davis has seemingly had surgery on her lovely face.

BrilliantBetty · 02/12/2021 12:45

I know! I love all of them but Samantha made it funny and was my favourite one to watch. Lots of good storylines.
It is a shame.
