Palpitations, for the love of God why can’t I ignore them?

Been checked out a lot by GP who said 99% convinced it’s benign ectopics or gastric . Waiting on an ultrasound to confirm .

Every single time I feel one or the slightest sensation in my chest, I hit the panic button, and launch into full blown panic attack .

Which causes more .

I’m exhausted tonight, I’d rather be in bed and instead I’m compulsively checking my pulse isn’t too high or too low or irregular . All day long . Every day.

There must be a way of stopping this? I’m on high dose beta blockers which GP says should calm me down but they aren’t working .

For checked out a lot read I’ve had two holter monitors, an echo, a treadmill, and about 45 ECGs (Gp’s estimate) in the last thirteen years …

I have this too. I also get pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear so can hear my heartbeat thumping. What I find difficult is that the cardiologist has no idea why it happens. But he's not worried about it at all. I'm OK about 90% of the time but find it really scary when it happens when I'm lying in bed at night for some reason.

Dh has palpitations and does all of this. He’s on sotalol 80mg x 4 but they don’t do much. He’s having surgery for his.

Magnesium can help.

MojoJojo71 · 30/11/2021 23:24

How old are you? I had this for over a year, drove me around the bend. Had lots of heart investigations which were fine and in the end the thing that sorted them out was HRT

romdowa · 30/11/2021 23:44

Have you had your b12 checked? I had years and years of skipped beats which would feel like my heart stopped in my chest. Turned out I was badly anemic and once I got my b12 levels up , the skipped beats stopped.

Things that cause palpitations, panic attacks:

Thyroid
Anaemia
Low ferritin (under 50, not under 15 as many GPs insist)
B12 deficiency
Hormones
Heart issue

... I'm sure others can add more! No point in doing 45 ecgs without blood tests. Tell me they've looked for another underlying cause, not just heart problems?!

Peri menopause/menopause also can be a cause.

goingtotown · 01/12/2021 09:01

Focus on your breathing. Breathe in for a count of five.

Redcrayons · 01/12/2021 09:04

My first symptom of peri menopause. It was terrifying.

Caffeine can cause ectopics and other arrhythmias. Can you do a gradual switch to decaf and see if it helps?

DerTrotzkopf · 01/12/2021 09:40

Agree it's so frightening. I was fine until I hit 53 then horrendous health anxiety and awful random cardiac symptoms. Like you I've had loads of tests which were all essentially normal. I don't have caffeine now which has helped massively.
