Reading that just makes me lose a little bit more faith in humanity. WTAF is wrong with people?!!!

DismantledKing · 30/11/2021 13:17

I was doubtful when I saw this story on twitter a couple of days ago; I thought it was impossible that people were so selfish and stupid.
Now it’s been confirmed by the RNLI I find it incredibly depressing.
Fuck these people, they’re below contempt. Absolute scum of the earth.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/11/2021 13:19

No one deserves to drown.
All lifeboats crews deserve medals not abuse.

Clymene · 30/11/2021 13:19

Christ, some people are so bloody thick it's a miracle they've made it to adulthood

RampantIvy · 30/11/2021 13:20

Shocking. I always donate to the RNLI.

Thegreencup · 30/11/2021 13:21

Well if Zoe from Hastings says it happened, then it must be true.

But it doesn't surprise me TBH.

SusannaQueen · 30/11/2021 13:23

I'd already picked the RNLI as the charity I'd donate to this Christmas, because of their non political stance and humanity in dealing with refugees. Hadn't realised they were facing this kind of hostility, I despair at what shitty, ignorant bastards some people are. Makes me ashamed to be British.

Soubriquet · 30/11/2021 13:24

Christ some people are so selfish

They would rather watch people drown, innocent children!!, than have someone save them

No hope for humanity

The RNLI have confirmed it. www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/news/people/hastings-rnli-lifeboat-crew-blocked-from-going-out-to-sea-by-people-angry-at-them-rescuing-refugees-3475179?amp

I read that it was fishermen who blocked them, people who should have total respect for the RNLI and naritime law on assisting those in peril. Absolutely shameful. Racist to the point of letting men, women and children die rather than assist them.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2021 13:40

If you watch “Saving Lives at Sea” there have been interviews with lifeboat volunteers who confirm that this has happened to them

Doyouwantcoffee · 30/11/2021 13:47

The RNLI statement says that there was an incident reported to police but that the lifeboat was able to launch. So your headline leaves the wrong impression.

I am always dubious about the London Economic a pro Corbyn, remain publication owned by a venture capitalist with strong links to the fossil fuel industry. Muddled structure. Muddled reporting.

DerTrotzkopf · 30/11/2021 14:05

@Doyouwantcoffee What a weird comment..... would you be less dubious if the daily mail reported it ? pro tory, leave supporting, notoriously suspected to be nazi ambivalent pre war, definitely neo liberal leanings and generally poor reporting ?
For what it's worth the girl who reported it contacted James O'brien on LBC. He was sceptical but dug further and confirmed it today.

FatCatThinCat · 30/11/2021 14:10

How long was the launch delayed by? Because if you're drowing seconds matters. 1 minute getting protesters out of the way could be the difference between life and death for some unfortunate soul.

Doyouwantcoffee · 30/11/2021 14:15

@DerTrotzkopf

James O’Brien can not have confirmed the story as reported because it did not happen as reported. The RNLI statement clearly states that the boat was able to launch.

So the story as reported was,at very least misleading. When readers see a headline saying the boat “was blocked” they understand it could not launch. That is clear from the statements on this thread.

I think a publication which is pro Corbyn (who is a long term leave advocate) while simultaneously being pro remain is a publication that does not know what it thinks. And how they can claim liberal credentials while their wages are paid by a venture capitalist with huge sums in fossil fuels is beyond me.

The example of reporting quoted here is dire. I would expect better from the Y4 class magazine.

I do not read the Daily Mail so can not comment on their writing.

Doyouwantcoffee · 30/11/2021 14:17

How long was the launch delayed by?

That is exactly the question that a decent publication would have addressed before running the story.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/11/2021 14:17

The comments online from people about refugees losing their lives from trying to make the journey is so depressing. It’s all “well that’s sad but they shouldn’t try and make the journey here for a free mobile phone and a roof over the heads” etc etc

I think the fact that some people thought it appropriate to protest at the RNLI launch is atrocious, and your nit picking about how long they were delayed is even worse.

Nope, I understood that the craft was able to launch.

Reading comprehension is a marvellous thing.

I’m truly thrilled by your opinion on one of the sources of the story. So good to have your important input.

My family have been seafarers for generations - fishing fleet, Merchant/Royal Navy and, indeed, RNLI coxes and crew.

To us, it's just a given that you support the lifeboats - what the sea gives, she takes back, and the sort of people who put their own lives in danger to save others are heroes (see also Mountain Rescue crews).

Delaying an emergency vessel by even seconds can literally mean the difference between life and death.

You really need to give your head a good shake.

@DismantledKing Don’t mention it. You are most welcome.

MrsBison · 30/11/2021 14:35

Probably all UKIP, EDL, BNP, and Change party members....sigh....

FatCatThinCat · 30/11/2021 14:35

I remember an episode off Saving Lives At Sea where a young couple got into trouble crossing a causeway The women couldn't keep her head above water any longer and disappeared under the waves just as the lifeboat arrived. The crew saw her go and as a result were able to reach under and pull her back to life again. Good job there was nobody trying to block the launch on that shout.

Doyouwantcoffee · 30/11/2021 14:38

@kidsatuniemptynester

I think that comparing someone who criticises the standard of a newspaper report with people protesting an RNLI launch and concluding that the former is worse than the latter reflects a lack of judgement on your part.
