Somewhere with Whitby vibes but not Whitby for holiday

DD 14 loved Whitby and its slightly alternative style and actual physical goth shop. Where else might be good for a summer holiday? Needs to be in striking distance of a beach, but not necessarily right on the coast.

Edinburgh. Loads of nice architecture and shops. Some great touristy stuff to do. There must be beaches within striking distance?

Portobello is Edinburgh's seaside suburb. Sandy beach but not necessarily beach weather! It's on the other side of town from the studenty/goth area though.

Hebden Bridge and go to Gaddings for the beach!! ( if you know, you know 😉!!!)

You have holy island, bamburgh, alnwick, Alnmouth beach, warkworth, cragside, chillingham castle is fab!
