My DS keeps saying I want xxx for Christmas and I've been modelling I would like to get xxx please, but how would you say it? May I have xxx?

For Christmas we just ask for a suggestions list to be written.

Always a list. They were told they would probably get some of the listed items, but not all.

For gifts that came from family(godparents, grandparents), they always wrote a thank you note. They never made any requests for family gifts.

No thank yous needed for Santa gifts.

Does your DC believe in Santa? If they know the presents come from you, then asking politely is nicer than a demand.

But if they think you're Santa's messenger, then 'I want xyz' is perfectly reasonable.
