Rhesus negative

Any other mums rhesus negative? I had DS in the 1980s and he is also Rh negative but I was never given anti D as I realised many years later. Luckily I never had any more chdren or it could have been a disaster.
Any Rh negative stories out there?

I had a neighbour in the 80's who had her firstborn no problem but then went on to have 3 stillbirths, found out it was due to the rhesus neg.Her and her husband later split up and she went on to have a ds with new partner 18 years after her first.

Dollywilde · 28/11/2021 20:45

I had DD in 2020, am negative and had the blood test when DD was in the womb. I found it mind blowing that they could tell me that she was rhesus positive before she’d even properly grown all her limbs! Modern science is amazing.

Don’t know what DH is but presumably something positive as DD is, am pregnant again and will be having anti D this time around obviously.

I assume they injected me with anti D after birth but it was all a bit of a mess towards the end and they could have injected me with anything, I was completely out of it.

I am Rhesus neg. I have had four kids. If I remember correctly two were also Rh neg and two Rh pos.

There’s a theory that Anne Boleyn was RH negative and that Elizabeth was positive hence why she never carried a baby to full term after Elizabeth’s birth.

YodaiamsaidI · 28/11/2021 20:46

I'm rhesus -,so is dd1,dd2 is + so even though I was sterilized while having c section ,the hospital still insisted I had the anti d incase.

Scottishskifun · 28/11/2021 20:50

@RabitWhole

What's 'anti-d'?
A bloody painful injection!!!!

It stops antibodies from baby if a different blood type mixing with mothers blood. As rh - is recessive if the dad is rh+ baby then has a chance of different blood type.

Without the injection subsequent pregnancies can kill the mother

BessieFinknottle · 28/11/2021 20:50

In the olden days - 2012 and before you didn't get anti d injections during pregnancy. After birth they tested the baby's blood and gave you an injection if required.

I definitely had anti d during pregnancy in 2007

They gave if during pregnancy at that time if there were any concerns, eg bleeding or spotting, a fall, any injury to the abdomen. It didn't have to be a serious injury, any slight concern and they'd give it to be on the safe side.

No, it's the baby (of a subsequent pregnancy) that's affected, not the mother.

dementedpixie · 28/11/2021 20:54

I had a fall when pregnant with dd in 2003 and got a precautionary anti-d injection. Had the usual ones in the 2rd trimester and after birth once the dds blood was checked.

@Scottishskifun it's subsequent pregnancies and the baby that can be affected rather than the mother

dementedpixie · 28/11/2021 20:54

Sorry in 3rd trimester not 2nd

Abcdefgottago · 28/11/2021 20:55

Me too, had the jab. My daughter was born positive like her Dad. No issues as all.

honeylemonteaforme · 28/11/2021 20:56

I had anti d during pregnancy in 2006 no fall no concerns etc

BessieFinknottle · 28/11/2021 20:58

I guess the protocol must have varied from place to place so honeylemonteaforme.

Just routine midwife visits, other than being underweight I had no complications. In 2010 midwives wanted to give it at a couple of appointments during pregnancy but I refused as was confident I wasn’t going to have more children, again no issues at all at the time.
Skips123 · 28/11/2021 21:01

If you are negative and your son is negative you wouldn't need the anti D.

I'm negative and so is my son so therefore is not necessary.

Only if they are positive do you need the jab. They used to do it as a precaution but now they can check whilst you are pregnant the blood type of the baby.

LuluBlakey1 · 28/11/2021 21:02

I am. My mam was and my dad. My aunt lost 4 children soon after birth, after her first, in the 1960s, all boys.
I had the anti-D when I had DC.

Cloud1220 · 28/11/2021 21:03

Rh- here and didn’t know until first pregnancy. Unfortunately that one ended with missed mc, and I had two more early mc afterwards in succession. Had 2x anti-d if I recall. A year and a bit later I carried my rh- firstborn no issues and then my rh+ second born again a few years later no issues. I always wonder if blood type was something to do with my miscarriages and by my rh+ DS2 I just had enough anti-d in my system (think I’d had 3/4 shots by the time I delivered him) for it all to work out! I am however not a scientist so don’t know if this stacks up!!

Tulips21 · 28/11/2021 21:06

I am.
I had the anti-D injection whilst pregnant with all mine-
2003,2008,2015,2017.
All fine, does sting a bloody lot though I found!

RedRobin100 · 28/11/2021 21:08

I’m rhesus negative but my husband is also negative, so I didn’t get anti-d

reluctantbrit · 28/11/2021 21:22

I am RH-, DH is RH+ so I got the injection before they even think about testing DD who is RH+.

I know this issue as my mum in the Seventies needed the injection, nothing really new for me and something I talked to the midwife about during my booking appointment.

Scotinoz · 28/11/2021 21:32

I’m Rh- but have two Rh+ kids. I had them overseas and didn’t have anti-d. Apparently it wasn’t given routinely due to limited supplies

LizziesTwin · 28/11/2021 21:34

I don’t think the injection hurt anymore than any other injection.

My cousins were born in the early 70s and after a miscarriage, a very ill baby who died and then another ill baby my aunt didn’t want to meet her last child until they knew he’d live. I’m so grateful to live now. My great great grandmother died in childbirth.

SBAM · 14/12/2021 17:12

I’m O- and so is my first child, so I had the injection during pregnancy with her but didn’t need it after. I was most surprised to be told that I needed to drop my trousers for this injection.
I had it again at 28 weeks in my second pregnancy, wore some nice pants, only to be told at this (different to DC1) hospital they do it in your arm! The nurse did say she’d had a few women expecting bum injections that day so not just me she had a little giggle with. Second child was R+ so had one after birth too but they did it in my leg I think cause I’d had an epidural so I couldn’t feel it.
